I have tried several investment strategies over the past few years. Dividend investing is the one that excited me the most given it is easy to follow and set measurable goals. in my spare time, I also manage a blog called www.dividendstrategist.com. My professional experience pertaining to investing includes an internship and a mutual fund company. However, I currently work as a financial analyst for a major technology company in the Silicon Valley. I hold a Master of Business Administration from Stanford, as well as a B.S. in Civil Engineering. Additionally, I am a holder of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
Just a simple, self employed (no pension plan here) average Joe who is trying to build a retirement portfolio to support me for 40 years of retirement. I seek to build this through combinations of high quality companies with a history of growing their dividends at a rate equal to or greater than MY EXPECTED rate of inflation.
Retirement is nearing now, it is currently October 2014, I expect to sell my small company and call it quits in the next few months. My income is going to be dividends paid on my stock holdings, I am approaching 50yo, so SSI is still several years away. I am financing buyer of my business, if he succeeds, I too will do well, and succeed he should as he has been an employee of mine for 8 years (1 of 2 employees) and I have taught him all he needs to know. But alas -I am too young to hang my hat on his success, and too old to re-enter a job market, so my stock dividends are what MUST keep me going.
So it is now Sept 1st, 2015 -escrow has closed on my business, I am officially un-employed, and since I am 50 years old, I guess officially retired senior, genuine AARP card carrier!
For the first time in a long time, my source of income is generally out of my hands. Hopefully, I have invested well, for it is the dividends that keep food on my table from here on out.

I RARELY sell, and for the rest of 2015 will remain in accumulation phase as I have some capital. Start of 2016 will probably be just manage portfolio stage.
Good luck to all, and keep saving/investing!
