I wish I was a successful famous investor so I could contribute something useful here, but I'm just a casual investor who took a one semester investing course at a local community college many moons ago. You won't be seeing any dazzling insightful investment articles penned by me, but if you need to know what table saw or saw blade to buy, I'm your guy! I'm married with 6 kids (4 still home), still working as a quality technician for Ortho Clinical Diagnostics (formerly a JNJ holding), and hoping to retire in the next 10-12 years. I manage about 1/3 of my 401K through Fidelity, and hire professionals to manage the rest. My investment philosophy is pretty flexible. My focus lately has been on generating income for retirement about 10 years out, and am trying learn all about the benefits of dividends.
My background includes service as Vice Chair of the Financial Accounting Standards Board, Fiscal Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury Department, and Chair of the Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board.
I am retired from regular employment but I am actively engaged in writing. I had a book published in 2009 entitled "Early Warning and Quick Response: Accounting in the Twenty-first Century." I have also had articles published in professional journals and have commented extensively on financiall regulatory matters.
I am a very small time investor compared to those who trade for a living. I have been interested in the stock market and investing since the early 80's, fascinated by what empirically and statistically works. My main financial objective now is to provide income for my wife and myself in retirement, have enough money saved to provide health care/ assistant living expenses for each of us, and to pass on anything that is left over to our heirs. Some have asked so I am listing my current equity portfolio. I am not yet fully invested, so names may be added over time. I am particularly interested in adding some industrial and financial names to the mix.
