A pox on all their houses. That was an extraordinarily strange time in the history of the United States.

Neal, Warren put his son on the Board of Coca-Cola. As far as the other comments in your e-mail, I don't respond to such things.

Yes, you are truly a financial institution and one that the administration should be paying more attention to!

BBob, as a matter of fact, we were thinking of posting that for financial institutions tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion!

The government, contrary to your note, often argues that its investment in banks on the verge of bankruptcy have been profitable for the U.S. taxpayer. You'd have to ask them why they make that argument.

The article has nothing to do with 2009 and nothing to do with TARP funding except in response to the comment alleging that it was impossible for BAC to fail.

Here are the details of the repayment. We are both correct. The SIG of TARP says Bank of America could have failed without the money. The money was repaid December 2009. None of this has anything to do with the article I posted.

They didn't receive the money until October 2009. Without the money, Bank of America would have failed. Read the title of the report of the Special Inspector General of the Troubled Asset Relief Program, October 2009. Repayments are on the website of the U.S. Department of the Treasury. It's amazing how short memories are when the facts are still available with a google or yahoo search.

Your logic isn't consistent with the way BofA bonds trade or their credit spreads. They are in the riskiest half of 238 diversified US financial institutions by default probability. They are in the riskiest 38% of all heavily traded bonds on January 20. If you want to ignore those facts, that's fine with me.

Thanks Tail Winds, just trying to put more facts on the table. Most commentators ignore what the bond market is saying, even when the bond data is important.
