Wal-mart (WMT) breaking out of 2 month base on heavy volume to all-time high. Does this portend a Santa Claus rally in retail?

    • Bob de'Long: lol, the big guys must have known I was going to make my monthly trip to WMT. Came back with the pickup bed full.

    • sundate36: Seems like WMT is also pulling up GDOT from oversold levels...

    • David White: Yes. WMT appears to be trying to compete with AMZN. I have previously mentioned that WMT was positioned to do this. SHLD is another

    • David White: that is well positioned to take some business from AMZN. It may be worth watching.

    • Bob de'Long: I picked up a WalMart.com order today at my local WMT. Works ok. I still prefer Amazon , for simple, hazzle-free.

    • realornot: Santa Claus wearing discount clothing.... Economy poor.

    • David White: Bob: I have done a minor price comparison. WMT seems to have lower prices in many cases. Shoppers will discover this soon. Products the same

    • David White: Remember SHLD last year had the guaranteed lowest prices on the top ten home appliance brands. Again shoppers will start to pay attention.

    • Dr. Kris: David: I think WMT is more a threat to SHLD as customers are lower-income than AMZN's. But 1-day shipping from WMT could make an impact..

    • Dr. Kris: Real: Santa in polyester?? Eeeuuuuw!

    • realornot: Would rather have Santa wear clothes from BEBE... LOL! Top end clothing and more in touch with Women! http://bit.ly/WSk2Kh

    • Dr. Kris: Oooh...I love that jacket but I don't think it's Santa's style. BTW, BEBE stock may be turning around.

    • David White: Actually WMT sells some of the best wicking sports shirts. They are the coolest on hot days. Not everything WMT sells is bad.

    • Sobekk: WMT is a sin stock. Don't buy sin stocks!
      10/10/12
    • Hillbilly Stock Star: My WMT sells tons of FOOD! LoL!

    • Justin M. Hall: WMT is a sin stock? Really? Apparently the crazies are out in full force today. Good grief.
      10/10/12
    • Dr. Kris: Justin: WMT has put small-town Main St. out of business & perhaps in that respect it could be considered a sin stock. Happened to my town.
      10/10/12
    • FortSumter: Everytime I hear that WMT put some podunk store out of business, I think no they didn't, the people no longer shopping there did.
      10/10/12
    • FortSumter: Remember the "Made in the USA" WMT campaign. Where is that now? People stopped shopping WMT for cheaper chinese junk. Just economic reality.
      10/10/12
    • bear2bull2bear: A true "small town" can't support a WMT in the US. Here there are WMTs every other corner and well run small businesses work. Bad 1s don't.
      10/10/12
    • Justin M. Hall: Let's look at this another way: What does WMT do right? Labeling American companies as Sins is a bit extreme and terribly negative.
      10/10/12
    • Justin M. Hall: WMT is innovative, efficient, and offers goods to Americans at lower prices. They built a better mouse trap.

    • Justin M. Hall: I am especially fond of Sam's Club, which helped me to dramatically cut my prescription drug expenses (outside the $4 generic list).

    • Dr. Kris: Big box stores have been great for the pocketbook but the human connection has been lost in the process. What's really been gained or lost?

    • bear2bull2bear: Luxottica has complete control of the eyeware industry.Owns most ALL brands an major retailers.Thank goodness for WMT/COST for price comp !
