Google's Chromebook 11" laptop for $249 is Gorgeous! Essentially a tablet w/a keyboard--great concept, huh? So why's GOOG down & AAPL up?

    • rrose39: all GOOG really has is ad clicks, and no one does that.

    • realornot: It is a beauty! pre-order at Bestbuy and Amazon....

    • Stephen J Melnykevich: AAPL is a superior company with earnings that are growing faster than GOOG. That's why. GOOG is still a great company, AAPL is just stronger
      10/22/12
    • Dr. Kris: Stephen: I beg to differ. GOOG has its fingers in a gazillion pies (mmm--pie!) but AAPL is mainly a gadget co (OK, it has iTunes).

    • Dr. Kris: 'Morning, real! The Chrome Air (oops!) is sooo tempting but I'm holding out for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to be released here any day now...
      10/22/12
    • Dr. Kris: ...The Note 2 is already out overseas. There were lines around the block in Singapore, FYI.

    • realornot: U just can't go wrong with Samsung line of products.

    • Dr. Kris: I just luv Samsung! http://bit.ly/SegvoH

    • Frost: It's all about patents. And, another tablet between the AAPL and GOOG behemoths is a minor effect on their bottom lines.
      10/22/12
    • Dr. Kris: Frost: Last quarter sales for iPad was $9.2B & $16.2B for iPhone. How is $9.2B a "minor effect"?
      10/22/12
    • Frost: "another tablet". Both already have tablets out. The iPad only accounts for 11.6% of Apple's stock price (TREFIS).
      10/22/12
    • Dr. Kris: If so, AAPL stands to lose 11.6% of its value whereas even if GOOG doesn't sell one Chrome unit, it's bottom line is unaffected.

    • jazzybest: Consumers are much smarter and don't want cheap clones copied and made with cheapest parts.
      10/22/12
    • Dr. Kris: FYI, Samsung is a major supplier to Apple. I've never heard anyone accuse Samsung products of being "cheap clones."
      10/22/12
    • HCube: The Surface is also a tablet with a (detachable) keyboard
      10/23/12
    • McArtardio: Huh? Are you saying that AAPL's tablet market share is going to zero? That's kind of unlikely.
      10/23/12
    • Dr. Kris: McArt: No, this was a hypothetical...Sort of...
      10/23/12
    • Frost: The new iPad is an option. If you're getting a tablet then it's just another choice. Not many people buy 2 sizes at once.
