  • Drew Bree's Dividend Paycheck For Retirement: Income Stocks A Pro Could Love [View article]
That eagle eye should get you 50 yard line tickets for next year's National Spelling Contest finals. Unfortunately, all I can offer is "thank's for the read and comment."

Can't disagree. He's not too bad for a QB who played college ball in a conference known for its "3 yards and a cloud of dust" style of play.

Sorry I missed that one. Maybe I'll profile TAP when he renews his contract.

  • Buying Is Easy, It's Selling That Counts [View article]
The best way to know when to take your profits is to define the amount of profits you seek. Quantify the first question "Why did I buy the stock?" Is it to collect the annually rising dividend? Is it for pure price appreciation? If your goal is a 10% average annual return, and you garner a 30% gain in the first 6 months, then (according to the 30% goal in this example) you could sit in cash for 2 1/2 years waiting for the right investment to come along. There are lots of nuanced ways to take profits or lock profits in. But they all begin with defining exactly what profits you desire.

A changing value proposition is a great sell strategy for a long-term investor. It can be the subtle difference between Buy-Hold-and-Hope and Buy-Hold-and-Watch. Glad your strategy is working for you.

EXACTLY!! Selling is the toughest part, which is why the parameters for selling need to be defined, or at least outlined, at the time of purchase. There is a difference between planning to never sell a security and creating a sell trigger which simply never happens.

  • Adding Equity Income With International ETFs [View article]
Thanks, DL. It is a world economy and investors, be they income or growth oriented, should consider a portfolio isn't truly diversified until they have an allocation to international investing.

  • There's A Place For Bond ETFs With A Defined Maturity [View article]
I spent the mid-80's in retail bank management and though I never gave away any toasters, I do remember handing out giant stuffed animals. Maybe that is what pushed me away from retail banking to my love for investment management.

Thanks Jonathan. It is hard to get investors excited about anything fixed-income in this "equity rules" environment. Glad you found my clicks on the topic worth a quick read.

Thanks MartyFL. Unfortunately these funds seem to be a well kept secret from the average investor.
