  • The Real Financial Crisis That Is Looming [View article]
If technology can rescue expenditures, such as in healthcare, that may be a positive catalyst. Otherwise, if nothing changes, this is a good argument. Look, our system is based on the condition that in order to live, one should work, but gainful employment is now more of a privilege than a right. We simply don't need everyone to work, as evidenced by near full employment that doesn't really spike the economy into growth.

  • Daily State Of The Markets: What's The Takeaway? [View article]
What I'm seeing for the reason of bio outflows energy inflows is simply institutions trying to perform in a sideways market. So, they'll sell off into energy momentum and get back into bio, wash and repeat until they find real growth equity--which may not materialize for some time. It's this: "Trade in May and stay to trade another day."

  • Stocks Tank Into Month End [View article]
"As equities have fallen, commodities have rallied. Oil and natural gas were both up big during the final week of April, and oil is now up on the year! "

I wonder how long it will take this false run to stop and investors to exit and return to bio? Obviously, this is just trading en masse, and not due to any great fundamental news on energy--except that it's lower than any other sector.

"I never saw such a poor performing stock in all my life other than ones that totally went under. "

You're forgetting that the reason for it going down isn't based on bad news of any sort.Maybe it will continue to erode, but traders are playing this thing like a puppet. Look how it went from .96 cents to over $2, and fast.

  • Nokia: Stock Price Weakness Could Derail The Alcatel-Lucent Merger [View article]
If the miss was do to Capex, it's simply a nonevent. All things being equal, this is what you look for when value investing. In fact, if the market buys the CapEx expenditure explanation, the price should come right back up.

Good 'ole trading machine, right AH?

  • Nokia Earnings: What Happened And What Comes Next? [View article]
"Nokia had entered into contracts part of the way into the quarter that required large up-front costs to be undertaken by the company, for "strategic reasons". He also alluded to some pricing pressure and pushback from competition that Nokia had presumably taken market share from in the near past, but it was obvious - to me at least - that the quarter's pathetic 3.2% operating margin was chalked up to softer software sales, as well as Nokia taking contracts that were structured to increase profitability later rather than sooner."

If true, now is a good buying opportunity. I mean sometimes you take a hit in capital because you are executing, and that execution takes capital. It's ok, then. Buy Nokia.

    Good write up Tim.

  • Time To Sell Advanced Cell Technology And Buy StemCells, Inc. [View article]
If it were 2013 and investors were flush with cash and wanting to give companies that have these poisitive results money, I'd say, and say very definitely, anytime.

Currently, with soft investor (big pharma) sentiment, who knows, man. These companies need money and if they don't get it, including BTX, AAVL and others, they will simply BK or end up diluting into oblivion.

They can't go to commercialization alone. I don't know what big pharma or large funds are waiting for. The situation like Ocata is not "questionable." They have past every milestone with stellar results. They are the ONLY company that has done what they have done with MD. They have no debt and no legal problems. It's as about as clean as you can get with both safety and efficacy. The only results that did not improve were from subjects with dead rods and cones and the treatment isn't meant to revive or regrow those. (Although they are working on that also.)

This is just my opinion, but I think PW is working on a JV for Phase II and that JV is dependent on getting SPA (pivotal) status for SMD in the USA--already got it in the EU.

SPA status, to me, that means that if they can show positive results like they have had, and the results should be distinctly better because the Phase II design will choose subjects that can benefit from the treatment (rods and cones still alive), they could get break through status after interim positive data. That's 6 months to a year after the first injections.

The stats every organization that compete for capital, either tax dollars or private equity, is questionable. It's business as usual. That's why the SEC has rules--they know the same thing. :)
