  • Deflation: U.S. Government Will Do Everything to Make Sure it Doesn't Happen [View article]
    Roger,
    while I am no fan of any government intervention by nature, the items you outlined not only make sense, but would actually work and add real value. You obviously are too smart to run for Congress. Thanks for the great comment.

  • U.S. Economy: Don't Stop Consuming [View article]
    Tony,
    I am not sure how exactly to tackle your comment. In college I studied Organic Chemistry, Recombinant DNA, Virology, Immunology, and applied Biochemistry. I had to wait until later to leran about the US "service based" economy. You cannot saty in school forvever!

    My sarcasm may be lost on those that are not familiar with my writing style. Obviously we are not dead in the water and I am very glad that your lights still work and you are near traffic to listen to.

    You will see no call to action by this writer, save the action of taking back all the FED/Treasury actions based on supporting consumption at an unrealistic high rate.

    Manya05,
    you may have noticed I have given almost zero attention to the audit the fed bill, and that is because of all the reasons you used. Even if by some chance that bill would pass, the president (no president, not picking on the current one) would ever sign it.

    All,
    Good added commentary. Either you like gold or you dont, but I am getting awestruck at the shear hatred towards it these days.

    Manya05,
    I am with you. If I was out telling everyone to sell everything they have and put it all on gold, then yes, thats insane. If everyone hates gold so much, why bother even thinking about it?

  • Newspapers: Why Bail Out Another Failed Industry? [View article]
    Great points all!
    Michael,
    sink or swim should be applied in many areas!
    SmBlkBob,
    I agree, the newspapers were very slow to understand the internets effect on news. I used to be a regular paper subscriber, but stopped about 6 years ago for online content.
    jrainspe,
    I do think bread is WAY more valuable than gold if you are starving, but you cannot make bread or water a basis for monetary value, there is simply to much of it. Golod has been money since time began.
    CLH,
    My point as well. Consider the FDIC borrowing funds fom banks and yet another conflict is introduced. What a mess.

  • Some Scary Implications of U.S. Debt [View article]
    bbro,
    I agree about your point about total assets vs debt, and as a single entitiy, the US has far more assets than debt. What I would point out is that the vast majority of assets are held by the very top end of the wealth scale, where most have far more debt than assets. When your economy is based on consumer consumption, there is just no way 10% of the country can make up the spending for the rest. As far as the dollar, yes, since the early 80's we have all heard the "dump the dollar" chatter, but now various countries are well positioned to actually do something about it, hence the real concern.

    Wow, great comments all!
    Michael;
    "Welcome to Japan. Japan waited it out starting in 1989 -- and they are still waiting it out."
    And to think we always made fun of them for the exact behavior we are adopting.
    Roger;
    "Buy-and-Fold, eventually"
    Reminds of that Kenny Rogers song "The Gambler" 'you gotta know whn to fold em'
    Stimpy,
    you bring up excellent cash flow point, and yes my piece only looked at the securities as priced on the index, ehich is not the full picture.
