  • Apple: Still Too Risky Except When Paired With These 4 Stocks [View article]
Gee, I guess hedging Apple with a short in CRUS might not have been so silly given CRUS drop of 13.4% today against Apple loss of 4.6%

Sounds like a disgruntled long in the shares. I'm not one of the shorts (who, btw are not the problem. it's the company's fault it couldn't adapt), just reporting material information in the shares. Don't blame others for your stock losses, you should have done your research on the company.

Do you switch off all the features loaded on your phone? The problem is that people do not realize the consequences of the feature until it is too late.

And yes, I am a genius. How about you?

That you can turn the feature off does not change the fact that a lot of people do not realize what may happen. The stumble may not doom the company but it could affect the financials and investors need to know.

Yeah, cyclones is a tough line to hold. You win some, you lose some (o.k. you lose a lot). On the upside, I usually have plenty of the post-season left to cheer for another team!

  • MercadoLibre Could Double, And That Is Just The Base Case [View article]
Insiders have many reasons for selling their position, least of which is to jump out on material information. You put so much faith in the insider information, I wonder why you would follow any other data on a company at all.

I don't understand why you think the whole of Latin America is still struggling to meet their basic needs. Middle class in Brazil alone increased from 38% to 52% of the population 2002-2012. Growth in internet access of 25% annualized over the last ten years is a secular trend and isn't slowing until the region reaches closer to convergence.

    Pedro,
Be careful of stereotyping investors in developed markets. I worked in advisory services for two years in Colombia so I am well aware of the structural problems in Latin America. You also generalize "any MELI shareholder" as short-term investors which I think is a mistake. The article is based on a secular growth story in e-commerce and internet penetration so is obviously not a short-term valuation.

I would also contest your suggestion that MELI is largely a "smuggler's" platform across international borders. I think the greatest potential is through domestic sales, not international.

Just saying "I could add 10 more points" doesn't make it a strong case and is a little lazy. Reading through your other comments, it is obvious you like to make these kind of generalizations.

  • BRIC Investor Warning: Thursday Could Be An Inflection Point [View article]
I could not give personal advice without knowing your risk tolerance and return requirements. Reports will be released Thursday so you should have your selling/hedging/buying done Wednesday, whatever you choose. I think, over the long-term, the growth story remains in tact but be prepared to push through some losses if the releases come out low. If you're happy with recent gains, you may want to think about protecting them with protective puts or covered calls.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • Jeremy Grantham's Long-Term Investment Themes [View article]
I think both play into the theme of rising need for food and agricultural yields. I haven't looked at the two companies, so can't say much on relative value. Market is fairly scary (overbought) right now so a slow accumulation would probably be most prudent to dollar-cost average through the year.

    Thanks for the comment
