  • The iShares Turkey ETF Got Really Ugly Really Fast [View article]
The stock market was up about 80% in the last two year period. If you think 15% drop in last two weeks is an opportunity, than it is an opportunity.

    This sounds very disrespectful indeed.

I remember spending $15 for a meal at Subway in Rio De Janeiro. Obviously that was a very expensive one compared to anywhere in the world. The hot money flooded into Brazilian bonds increased the value of Real.

I use both terms interchangeably. We all know what is a distribution and what is a dividend.

Philip. You are absolutely correct. Unfortunately, Nasdaq data was not adjusted for the split. This is why it looks like a 50% cut. Hopefully, the data will be corrected soon. Thanks for the comments,

Yes. This is an unfortunate but serious problem in Brazil. While the stocks are really cheap, its currency is highly overvalued. A strategy that is long in Brazillian equities but short in Brazilian Real is probably the best one.

  • Armour Residential Slumps After Earnings Release [View article]
It is probably because some of the preferred shares could be convertible to common stock, thereby diluting the book value per share.

  • Bank Of America Reaches New Highs After Settling With MBIA [View article]
    Hi MexCon,

You are surely right about the book value. It is exaggerated by a goodwill of $70 billion (what goodwill?) and intangible assets of $6.6 billion. However, BAC is one of the few financials that is still trading way below its pre-crises valuation.

Ashraf is like a 'team of analysts' himself. Obviously, his knowledge of subject is better than many of the professional analysts who keep upgrading/downgrading the stocks on an almost random basis.

Yes. It is pretty high. But its growth pace is similar to that of Apple's growth in the last decade. At 2005, Apple was also trading at a P/E ratio of about 100+, but now it is trading at a P/E of less than 10. Meanwhile shareholders quadrapled their investment in the last decade.

Everything is down today. Suncor is relatively more volatile than the rest of the market.

Yes. It does not have to just cash. Anything that has a value is an addition. It could be cash, inventory, land, or even the trademark.

    John,
Thank you for the comments. You are right about the Year 0 EPS. However, as you might noticed, I assumed '0 growth' after 5 years. So that is a reasonable addition.

The book value is the theoretical liquidation value. Most companies has excess cash over liabilities, which you are entitled as a shareholder. The upper level is the maximum, so that does not mean the exact fair value.

Thanks rjj1960 for the comments. The prices change very rapidly in the markets. The recent hike in price supports my point.
