  • Why Berkshire's Discount To Intrinsic Value Will Close Soon [View article]
Nice article and thanks for the link. I agree that succession is taking place with solid investors like Todd and Ted. The board is also looking good with additions like Meryl Witmer.

  • Berkshire Hathaway Intrinsic Value Pie Chart [View article]
    This article is dated.

If my pie chart was accurate then my opinion was that the company
was worth around 308b on Mar 30.

    On Mar 30th class B
    shares sold for $104.20
    and their sum (market cap)
    was 243.48b per http://bit.ly/1dGA1o8.

If the pie chart was accurate then class B shares were worth around $132 on Mar 30.

    Briar,

Thanks for the comment. It's true that there have been a lot of bolt-on acquisitions lately.

  • Berkshire Hathaway Valuation [View article]
    Thanks for the comments, Everyone.

Yes, Todd and Ted will be very important in the future. Buffett and Munger have structured things such that Todd and Ted will have a lot going for them in order to be successful.

    Thanks for the comment, Bob.

Yes, I have some ideas about improving the layout of the calculations and market cap if I do another one of these next quarter.

  • Should Microsoft Drop Bing? [View article]
    ###
    1. Microsoft Office may be a cash cow today, but it doesn't have a future - most Word/Excel-type usage will be free products, like Google's.

    jonhule,

Google docs are improving but they still have a ways to go when compared to MS Office imo. I think some companies will stick with MS Office for a very long time.

    Thanks for the comments, Everyone.

    jpsloan3,

Yes, Berkshire has changed a lot over the years. It is hard to say where the valuation should be compared to book value. I'm hoping to write another valuation article soon based on the latest 10-Q.

    Cheers,
    Eric

  • Should Microsoft Drop Bing? [View article]
    Thanks for the comments, everyone.

I don't think Bing is a bad product - it's just that it has lost an unbelievable amount of money under Microsoft's management over the years. It might be better for everyone if it was sold to a company like Yahoo.

    50000,

No, this isn't a joke. I was trying to say that Windows isn't as dominant as in the past and one of the reasons for this is that many laptops are being replaced by tablets that don't use Windows as the os.

    LowRiskValue,

The 4 reasons you gave for improving profits make sense - I hope you're right. Still, I think the company is better off in the long run if it focuses on its 3 biggest operating profit segments (business/office, windows and tools).
