Love the stock market. Look for shorts and longs that are both mispriced and ripe for moving. I've been investing in the stock market for over ten years, primarily on the hedge fund side. I've worked in private equity and like to think about the market, the economy, and society in a broad, sometimes slightly unorthodox way. While I do trade rather actively, and if I had more time, I would increase the level of my activity, I spend a lot of time looking for long-term holdings. I see trading as another asset class for my overall portfolio.
I am currently retired at the age of 62. I have a BS in Chemical Engineering and I am a Registered Petroleum Landman. I spend most of my time tending to my beef cattle ventures and managing my investments. I am always looking for ways to improve my investment knowledge. I currently invest in both stocks and options. My prefered options investments are credit spreads and iron condors using a service called Monthly Cash Thru Options. Most of my stock investments are based on set strategies that are implemented via a totally robotic software called CoolTraderPro (CoolTraderPro/site/mnlovell.asp). I would be very happy to share my experiences with both of the forementioned products.
Started studying charts 10 years ago during my "free" time (remember that?) - had the "aha" moment... - and keep learning from it as time passes. Social Security and 401K's aren't gonna cut it probably and nothing's getting cheaper. There is a flow in any market - we are here to monitor the flow - the roller coaster - and it's fun after you learn not to get burned. BTW - you will get burned once in a while...
I'm a lawyer by trade, but I trade nearly every day. I'm a partner in a law firm and title company in North Texas. Day trading stocks, currencies and options is a passion as well as intermediate to long term stock trading, covered call writing and option spread trades. Learning new things is what it's all about and I'm always interested in getting to know others in the financial community and learning about what they do.
