Tbh I don't even see the need to get this deep into that, as far as I can see all nations that are productive and have something to offer do well, free trade theory does not legislate for poor performance.

It's not only with China that the US runs a trade deficit, it's with almost the whole world for christ's sake. Any sports fan knows that unless his team keeps its wits about and strengthens each year it will almost certainly go down with time. How many people are net-productive in the US i.e. live from their own work and not of some form of benefit? How many companies create something of value?
