  • Reasons to Be Bullish on America: Four Stock Picks [View article]
It's a good thing I don't write to win popularity contests. I knew this article would ruffle some feathers. Look, I stated the facts, you can fact check any of my economic data to make sure it is correct. I draw my own conclusions and write about them. I have been investing for a long time and made plenty of mistakes, I've been right plenty of times too. I would rather be on the same side of the trade as Warren Buffett and he is bullish on America too. Thank You all for the comments, I appreciate all feedback.

  • McDonald's: A Sell, Or On Sale? [View article]
I wouldn't be too worried about mom & pop shops opening up. MCD has withstood that competition for many years. Point taken on the shifts in the US consumer behavior. The answer to that is growth in emerging markets will overtake the US for MCD. Brazil, India, China and others will be the new high-employment/high-wage centers. Don't count the US out though. The economy here is going to get better than many think.

  • Jim Cramer Is Better Than You Think [View article]
    Michael-
I absolutely agree with you. I do watch Cramer from time to time. It's not where I get most of my investment ideas, but Cramer has good insight into the sectors that he is talking about. Sometimes his picks are good sometimes they are not - Really no different than the rest of us stock pickers. He makes educated decisions on companies just like you and I. I like to hear his opinions. I always follow up with research. People should never buy a stock just because ANYONE says to.

  • Investing in the Oil Sands: 4 Stocks [View article]
Recovering oil from the oil sands is a very energy intensive process and not the most environmentally friendly. However, the Canadian government, thus far, has been more than willing to allow the process unimpeded. For investors, this decision is best left in the hands of the government and regulators.

  • Disagreeing With the Market: Cisco Is Still Undervalued [View article]
There are times when an author, such as I, recommends a stock and has no position in it. It can be for the simple reason that capital is allocated to something else at the moment. I would not take a lack of a position to mean that author does not really believe what he/she is saying.

  • New iShares High Dividend ETF Offers High Quality Yield [View article]
I have no problem with Vanguard funds. In my article I do not argue that this fund is better than any other. I have no preference between HDV and MGV. All I am saying is that they are different, and based on your asset allocation and your goal, you should choose the fund that is best for you. My article is simply for information and outlines another option that dividend investors can choose from. It may or may not be right for you.

  • Exelon: Powerful Yield and Earnings Growth [View article]
As most commentors on this article are bearish, I believe this reflects the fact that their arguments, although valid, are built into the current share price. Let me be clear, I don't expect the share price to take off like a rocket. This is more of a long-term investment that will appreciate over time. I would be willing to wait for the long-term appreciation given the 5.1% dividend yield. The downside risk at this point is limited.

$AAPL valuation is astonishing (low). It is arguably the most popular company in the world, selling the most popular items in the world, yet it is valued hardly more than $CSCO

MGV is a decent fund but I would argue that it is very different than this. MGV has more global names in it, which may or may not be a good thing based on what you are trying to accomplish. MGV has three large banks in the top ten holdings. Many investors would not like the exposure to the large banks. MGV yields 2.21%. My expectation, based on the holdings, is that this fund will have a larger yield than that.

  • A Tale of 2 Master Limited Partnerships: One Strong, One Weak [View article]
I have been investing in MLPs since the 2009 bottom. I agree they are likely overbought in the short-term and fairly valued in the long-term. My largest position has been MarkWest Energy (MWE) which until recently I had been investing in since it traded around $13. The units are close to $46 today. I have greatly reduced my position, although I hold a small amount for the yield.

  • They know it's coming but they can't help themselves. The number of investors fearing a catastrophic crash is rising even as they pile back into stocks. "They aren't so much expecting one as hoping for one," Josh Brown says, "so they can rationalize buying into a market that's left them behind."  [View news story]
