Thanks for asking Guardian3981. A dog is any stock that places in the top five or ten showing highest dividend/price yield in any index, sector, or industry. Dogs of the Dow built the model that was popularized by Michael B. O'Higgins in his book, "Beating the Dow" published by HarperCollins in 1991.

Thanks for asking about the dog trading strategy, MBehr55. It's a once per year trading system triggered by yield. The follower selects five or ten stocks in an index, sector, or industry showing the highest dividend/price yield. The collection is held for one year and the stocks that drop out of the top five or ten (because their prices have increased and their resulting yields are lower) are replaced by new high yield dogs. This goes on year after year and the gains are swept up for income or reinvestment in a new collection of dogs. For a complete explanation go here: http://bit.ly/WojPvK.h

Thank you Brad Thomas for your patient tour through the business and financial logic of the O business plan. Well worth the read.

Thanks for your observations Got That Swing. This is not hip hop but bee bop! A lot faster tempo: twelve beats to the measure rather than one, two, or four. Tune in!

Thanks Miz! I'm afraid for some of these dogs their upside is a long way off. In the meantime, though, they are paying out monthly dividends.

Thank you for defending my minimalist tactic for this article, Ambil Kembali. You are right about the missing dividends but there's good reason for these companies not to have them. They all have far better uses for all the cash they can get their hands on. I will be writing more articles on growth and momentum companies because these are the dividend payers for the future.

Thanks Hal44 for your suggested additions to my bare bones treatment of these product competitors. I agree a side by side discussion of features and benefits is long overdue in this product class. Especially in 500 words or less.

Thanks, Slash, for your straight forward critique. For you apparently, this article is all process and no substance. This is only partly true. This article is a statement about the million word teaser for a short list of world beating stocks. Why not just reveal the list? Here it is without the meaningless drivel.

Thanks for your input, hksche2000, and jsIRA. This is a one-off attempt to contrast the verbosity of endless hype used to promote certain on-line stock advisors with the bare bones facts presented therein. Apparently in so-doing I failed to deliver enough meat on the bones. There is more drama to discuss and so I could have mentioned the high performing stock, Proto Labs, Inc. (PRLB) from Maple Plain, MN that manufactures molded custom parts as a service to product developers in the US, Europe, and Japan. Next time I'll go for alpha riches. My apologies!

Yep, sinedo, and the market will do what it will do. Fear is what drives we punters to buy high and sell low. Buying the lows is what made Gordon Gecko and Warren Buffet rich.

Thanks sinedo for sharing your questions and concerns. This article uses analyst 1 yr mean target price estimates as indicators of current market sentiment regarding price movement. The estimates change just like market conditions change. Sometimes the market and analyst prices move in opposite directions. Such is life.

Thanks for asking Mgarron. NCT would be illegal we're it not regulated by law. Here is partially how NCT activities are described in their Yahoo Finance profile:" ... it acquires and manages direct and indirect interests in operating real estate, including senior living assets. Further, Newcastle Investment Corp. publishes 33 local publications, including 8 daily and 15 weekly newspapers in the United States. The company qualifies as a real estate investment trust for federal income tax purposes. It generally would not be subject to federal corporate income taxes if it distributes at least 90% of its taxable income to its stockholders. Newcastle Investment Corp. was founded in 1998 and is based in New York, New York."
