  • Low, Medium or High Yield: 16 Dividend Growth Stocks for Every Type of Investor [View article]
It's not good to drive ahead all the while looking in the rear view mirror. But trading volatile markets without specific fixed fractional risk mitigation is worse. The flash crash never phased those with no skin in that game. A stop loss is one tool. The size of your position is another. Preparation is always critical. Look forward and back to see where you are going and what is chasing you.

When playing with fire be sure to have an extinguisher handy. Take precautions with all investments. Be sure to have a stop loss strategy in place for every trade. FA

Apple is another Jumbo Jet but with rocket assist, It definitely needs to be in the game. Like Havlicek with the Celtics in the 70s. He never started but was MVP as the sixth man. AAPL must be played in the mix. Thanks for following through with this article. FA

  • 2011 Halftime Review: Dow Dog Portfolio Beating S&P, Plus Over Double the Yield [View article]
    Hi ZB,
Your list can be verified daily by going to: www.dogsofthedow.com/d.... This whole conversation is making a very simple investing concept more complicated and confusing. What is robust about the dog list is its ability to produce gains even for those who just want to buy and hold. Gunny is right. FA

Great, go for it! By the way there is a more recent list of truly high flying stocks on Seeking Alpha today: 7 Top Rated Growth Juggernauts Outstripping the Market by David Anton Clark that might make a suitable comparison. FA

    Hi DAC,
Yours is an excellent selection of seven rocket propelled growth stocks and well documented. Fixed fractional trading at targeted entry points with trailing stops are strongly recommended to curtail risk when trading these. In other words be well protected when dealing with hot stuff. FA

  • Low, Medium or High Yield: 16 Dividend Growth Stocks for Every Type of Investor [View article]
    Hi David,
You lend a dignity to the edgy debate about favorite dividend yields, gains, and sweet spots. Thanks for your great work in culling out the above list of notables. Your approach is direct and to the point. I've gone the route of letting the indexes (S&P; Dow; NASDAQ; RUSSELL; NYSE International) do the culling then selecting the top ten out of those. Wow, it's almost the same list! See seekingalpha.com/artic.... One notable missing stock on your list is AGNC from the Russell to dogs. FA

  • Pondering the 3 Faces of Alpha [View article]
    Hi RN,
Thank you for your thoughts about Mr. Roche's revelation of three sources of alpha. What I glean from your article is that there's only one source, the information. The other two are what you do with the information and what you feel (greed/fear) about the information. Apparently there is truly only one source. Thus, the market rules. FA

  • 5 Genuine Rocket Stocks [View article]
Thanks MPIQ for the thoughtful list. If a jumbo jet could be classified as a rocket, your five would fly. Rockets blast of with short spurts of real energy. Rocket stocks must have a bundle of market power behind them and exceed analysts dreams. For those I'd choose real growth stocks: CRR; NFLX; FOSL; TSCO; LULU. Then I'd keep AAPL in reserve as a spare. FA

    Hi TJ,
Thanks for the list and rundown on this collection of current monthly payers. No guarantees the monthly payouts will continue being at the whim of managements and boards of directors. I've had LTC and O on watch lists for awhile. FA

  • 10 High Yield Blue Chip Buying Opportunities: Dogs of the Dow Edition [View article]
Thanks DAC for the mid-year update and review of the Dogs of the Dow strategy. A convenient feature of dogsofthedow.com is a weekly performance summary and update of the relative rankings of the original dogs of the year vs. the entire Dow list. I take issue with the term "trouble" regarding selling off the fat dogs and buying up the skinny dogs once a year. It took me about an hour of deliberation the first year. Now it takes about 15 minutes at most. That's15 minutes a year to implement an entire trading strategy. Very efficient use of one's time. Dogs rule! FA

  • 4 Stocks Still Increasing Dividends After 50 Years [View article]
    Hi DP,
Thank you for the list of really well run companies with enough diversity and ingenuity to weather the tides of the world economy for the past 50 years. Having grown up in MN I can only relate to 3M as an outrageous developer of new products able to convert failures into successes by finding new uses for the failed inventions. From sandpaper to tape to post-its the 3M people know how to create a culture of innovation and sustain it for years. FA

    Hi JustSayIn!

Thanks for your sentiments and encouragement. Your comments prove you to truly be well versed in the dogs of the Dow strategy. I'm amazed at how well it works with other indices. Thank you for bearing with me as I poke into some related thoughts and research as I play with various breeds of dog stocks.
