  • Quo Vadis, Nokia? [View article]
IF IN THE US GO AND HAVE A PLAY WITH 1020. THE HARDWARE AND AUGMENTED REALITY MAPPING IS AWESOME. HANDS DOWN BEST HARDWARE ON THE MARKET. MY WIFE TEMPTED TO SWITCH OVER, SLIGHT ISSUE IS BARRIERS TO EXIT FROM APPLE GIVEN HER I TUNES COLLECTION! HOWEVER POINT IS IT SHOWS NOKIA TECHNOLOGY IS BACK ON TOP. SURE IT IS WINDOWS ECOSYSTEM, BUT IMAGINE JUST TAKES BIT OF TIME TO GET USED TO. THE DIRECT SYNCHRONIZATION WITH MICROSOFT OFFICE WILL BE AM SURE GOOD FOR ENTERPRISE SEGMENT. ALSO THE GUY AT AT&T COMMENTED HE WAS ON WP SYSTEM AND LIKED AS SYNCHRONIZED WITH XBOX ACCOUNT. EXPECT GLOWING REVIEWS ON THE 1020 AS GETS AROUND THE US.

ALSO AT&T DID PLACE THE PHONE RIGHT AT FRONT OF SHOP.

I DID GO TO VERIZON AND WAS DISAPPOINTED WITH THEIR DISPLAY OF THE LUMIA 928 TO BE HONEST. IT DIDNT EVEN HAVE A FUNCTIONING PHONE WHERE COULD ACCESS THE ECOSYSTEM. GETTING MARKETING AND IN-STORE SHARE OF MIND BEHIND LUMIA IS KEY. BUT IN AT&T STORE, THE SALES GUYS SEEMED TO BE USING IT FOR THE FIRST TIME (AS I WAS FIRST CUSTOMER IN ONCE RELEASED THIS AFTERNOON) AND THEY WERE PRETTY MESMERIZED BY THE CAMERA, VIDEO, SOUND QUALITY & THE AUGMENTED REALITY MAPPING. FOR M PROBABLY AUGMENTED REALITY MAP WOULD BE STAND OUT V HELPFUL AS MOVED TO A NEW CITY. HELP FIND WHERE THINGS ARE.

Sorry wasnt meant to be on caps lock

  • Nokia Lumia 1020: Much Ado About Nothing [View article]

    1) Nokia stock price doesnt account any value for their Device business
    2) Microsoft HAS to make it in the mobility world, and Nokia is their conduit. They will make it happen and have the resources to do so
    3) Nokia is so unloved and undervalued 35% of the shareholders are US funds. That is very rare for a European company and suspect it is because of Funds like Dodge and Cox (own 8.5% of stock) who have a strong value bias.
    4) Nokia is attacking the smartphone ground where the next wave of growth is going to happen it is low to mid end phones ( the upgrade cycle from feature phones). Compare Apples ASP at $581 with Lumia at sub $200..
    5) Nokia ASP decline doesnt matter as making similar margins on lower ASP phones & is moving mix towards low to mid end. Also as a challenger looking to build market share, they should be pricing their lumia range at marginal cost to build m/s. What is the point of them maximizing near term proifts, best to maximize long run market share. It is short term sell side people who are obsessed by quarter to quarter earnings, which gives longer term investors who can see the strategic drivers opportunities

Gentlemen, i did some work on the Panama Canal expansion and impact
    http://seekingalpha.co...

I think of PC expansion like relieving a supply bottleneck that will create its own demand eg. more routes will be created and more trade because it can now occur.

  • Why The Housing Market Is An Accident Waiting To Happen: Part 3 [View article]
    Good analysis.

However this part is incorrect.PE and Hfs probably have bought about 100,000 homes not 500,000 as suggested below.

'My point here is that existing home sales over the past 18-24 months have been heavily driven by the private equity funds and hedge funds buying up huge blocks of foreclosed and distressed homes. At their peak, they were accounting for close to 40% of all monthly existing homes.'

However investors have been about 30% of the market

  • Quo Vadis, Nokia? [View article]
Am not totally clear on point of article..to say it is a trading stock?
In terms of microsoft being a weak partner, it is a $300bn tech gorilla who basically has to succeed in mobility, with Nokia selling 80% of windows phones that puts them in a strong position. Dodge and Cox view is that the WP eco system becomes a credible third ecosytem and Nokia is conduit to that..

Dodge & Cox are large value investors. Interestign that they own 8.5% of the company. It is interesting that US investors are about 35% of Nokia's shareholder base given often have long run value bias
