  • Renewable Energy: Dec 31 Tax Credit Expiration Signals Precipitous Ebitda Contraction, 50% Downside [View article]
    Very interesting article..

Am slightly confused. Given the BTC xpire Jan 1, 2014 and there has been no discussion of it being reinstated at present we can assume it will expire. Is the market's hope that it will be reinstated and reapplied retroactively as was the case for 2012?

Also what does retroactive application of BTC mean please..that any sales in 2012 were able to take a $1 tax credit which was then applied to the blenders and producers 2013 accounts?

    Many thanks

  • U.S. Light-Sweet Refining Capacity Hits A Wall: Power Shifts From Shale Producers To Downstream Operators Like Phillips 66 [View article]
Michael, great clarity of thought. The question I have and am trying to reconcile is how, when and what would be the mechanism for this 'overproduction' of US Shale Oil and lower domestic prices to start to weigh on Global brent prices? ie. when and how does this 'supply side' phenomena actually impact global oil prices?

    Many thanks

  • Are Energy Investors Rotating Out Of Shale Producers And Into Big Oil? [View article]
Michael very interesting article. One question I have is if production levels pick up alot in 2014 due to the new technique, would that increase in supply not pressure WTI oil prices? Or would the opening up of the Keystone pipeline be the reason prices WTI would hold up pls?

  • Strong Patent Portfolio The Saving Grace For New-Look Nokia [View article]
I think that patent figure of 16,000 might just be US? I believe they have 30,000+ patents within 10,000 patent families.

Agree on patents undervaluation. Nokia and Qualcomm are the 2 leading industry wireless patent portfolios. QCOM earns 10x as much as Nokia as Nokia barely started to monetize it..

  • Nokia - A Tale Of Two Cities [View article]
Patents, patents, patents. Even Microsoft equates Qualcomm and Nokia has having 2 industry leading wireless patent portfolios in the world. Both have about 30k - 35k. Qualcomm has been profit maximising their patent business and makes $6.5bn PBT from licensing. Nokia has only licensed 10% of ppatent portfolio, the SEP side and makes about $700m. Fosspatents believes every Android maker eventually will license Nokia's non-SEP. Qualcomm is a $100bn+ maket cap company. Nokia doubles or triples from here still!

  • Why Nokia Isn't Expensive At $8 [View article]
Looks like right PER number adjusting for Euros Market cap and correct net cash (E2bn at last quarter) is 7.6x.

However I think the patents are worth alot more. MSFT equated qualcomm and nokia patent portfolios as highest quality in wireless space, Qualcomm makes $6.5bn pbt from licensing and is a $100bn + market cap company. Nokia could make people alot more money still!

  • In victory for oil industry, EPA proposes lower renewable fuel quotas [View news story]
The 15.2bn is 3bn below what the previous 2007 law mandated for 2014. However it is still slightly above the 2013 mandates. Does this mean that the blend wall will still be an issue in 2014 forcing mandated refiners to purchase biodiesel or RINS.

Or has this proposed legislation somehow circumvented the whole blend wall issue please?

    Any views appreciated
