XLU is currently tracking the S&P fairly closely - roughly within 95% of its movements (r^2=.947). If the classic pattern holds, we might indeed see utilities' foundering. If that behavior were to be divergent from that of the broader markets, it would reinstate the less correlative movement that investors in utilities have come to expect.
