Shares of Fusion-IO (NYSE: FIO) are now up about 7 percent as the company's Chief Scientist, Steve Wozniak (yes, Apple's Steve Wozniak) just appeared on CNBC.
Traders were buying the stock ahead of the Woz's appearance, however the exec didn't exactly say much. Wozniak pointed out the fact that people doubted the company's push into flash, however noted Fusion-IO is now growing as fast as Apple. He said the company's Board wants to be in control of its own future. (From StreetInsider)
As an addendum, I'm coming up with over 350 so-called pocket pivots in stocks with at least fairly decent numbers, which is usually (in my book) considered an overall buy signal for equities. Ranked by price, I'm looking at GOOG, ISRG, NEU, IBM, PNRA, VFC, ICE, PSA, GR, BIIB, CLB, LO, BEN ADS, SI, PX, VMW, FLS, FDS, CXO, NKE, CAT, BTI, HANS, KOF, ROST, CL, PPG, APD, VMI, SM, AGN, LH, GDI, SAN, UTX, WAT, ORLY, AIRM, CMP, TIF, SLB, DE, CTXS, IDXX, PRAA, ENR, SWM, RLI, UPS, MSM, CHRW, KO, WAB, ALK, WRLD, TPX, BA, XEC, HSIC, CLX, JNJ, MCF, EQT, COH, PG, PII, MMP, TCO, SAP, TJX, LNN, RAVN, AXE, FDO, ACN, SQM, CHKP, FISV, CHE, VAR, DOV, NVS, TUP, HP, SNA, COL, PPO, SNDK - so a real nice mix of sectors, not just energy or retail. (I own PPG, CLB, BIIB & DRI from those mentioned above.)
Nice analysis, thanks! I was considering swapping out DRI with BWLD. I used your spreadsheet, and they both come up with the same score of 6.6. I figured I'd just stick with the dividend payer! PNRA is below 5 (score) but technically very strong. I like your point about sticking with the relative underperformers with good overall numbers, & looking for future price performance. BWLD also has no debt & has a nice "pocket pivot" (pullback in an uptrend that is starting to reverse as witnessed by a move up thru the 4 or 10 day moving average). In uncertain times, dividends are an important positive to consider. Any thoughts on BWLD? Also, averaging the trailing and forward P/E ratio is very important per your system. How about averaging the revenue and earnings growth rate, rather than just focusing on earnings (which is easier to manipulate than revenue). Perhaps you could back test that, or try incorporating it and see how it pans out.

HFC was a good buy on the pull-back below 70 again today after continued market weakness. Earnings are in two days before market hours on Friday. There's a good chance it could gap up.

I personally think there is a difference between contrarian investing and investing in a company involved in major litigation, esp. when government is doing the litigating.

We thought it was a good trade below 70 a couple of years ago and were all over it. The government report referenced was not released until April 2011 when the stock price had already moved down quite a bit. At this point I am rather agnostic about the stock price. However, a price trend is inherently after the fact, and I am correlating the price action to the news. It may well be a good entry point, but I really don't have an opinion at these levels when you look at the headline risk and uncertainty.
