  • Time Magazine. A Top Ten Media Blunder.

So Time magazine comes out with their  "top 10 technological failures"  of the last decade. The "FAUILURE TO LAUNCH"  list.   I had to do a double take when I saw some of the names.   Because really, how can you possibly call some of these names a technological failure that failed to launch?

Let's run down some of the names on this idiotic  list

Microsoft (MSFT) Vista - Alright, not the greatest job Microsoft ever did with an Operating System.  It is an IT Administrator's nightmare but  very user friendly for the home user. The main problem with Vista is that Microsoft took too long to release it, and everyone got too used to XP. People are creatures of habit, the longer you wait to release a new version of a product, the tougher it is to get people to buy into it.  But a Technological failure.  No. And let's not forget that is is still in millions of homes (even if it was forced).

  • Why Sirius is Here To Stay

Recently I read an article on an popular technology web site in which the author believes that satellite radio will die this summer as a result of the IPod and Iphone coming out with a new Broadcom (BRCM) BCM4329 chip that would give them 802.11n wireless capability. This means that you will be able to tune your FM radio to the frequency that the device is broadcasting and listen to online radio and your digital library through your car stereo. That's true. It's a nice feature but it isn't exacly a new idea.  So Lets talk reality.

Cost.  The cost of online streaming an 802.11 IPhone is $30.00 in addition to the standard phone plan which is $100.00 or so.  Satellite radio is  $12.00

  • Sirius - The Bulls And The Bears

As the expected somber news of Sirius' (SIRI)  earnings call drilled the stock by 20%, we now find that it seems to be holding at a .40-ish support trend line. Subscriptions are down as new car sales continue to plummet. Revenue is up but lets face it,  we still have a speculative stock on our hands. OK, lets speculate on a few small points.

  • Sirius Addiction

As May 11 draws closer and shareholders hold their breath for a sign of stability in a stock that costs about as much per share as a postage stamp, the issue for me is not  about what the price of the stock will be a year from now, but how long it will take the world to realize what a wonderful service we as consumers are getting. I never gave much thought to how spoiled I was until I had to drive a relative's car that didn't have Satellite Radio.  It was a miserable  two days to say the least.  No CNBC, no Bloomberg, no Hair Nation (yeah I am a child of the 80's).  I was reduced to listening to * choke * ,  FM radio. Oh the horrer!!   Of course, the announcer stated it was HIGH DEFINITION  FM  radio.  I didn't notice the difference.

The point here is that regardless of talks about  Posion Pills, take-overs, mergers, options volume , reverse splits,  manipulations, and a partridge in a pear tree;  satellite radio is the future of high definition audio in your new vehicle.  Any service that enables people  to listen to the same station weather they in California or New York is a far better choice than terrestrial radio any day..

Where the stock will go or how much it will be worth remains to be seen.   I am common stock holder and a life long subscriber who believes in the sustainability of the technology, not the hype.   The stock may go nowhere for awhile, but the service will take us everywhere right now.
