  • 2 Contrarian Plays In Housing [View article]
I'd like something like WTW better as a contrarian play than homebuilders. As Fed pulls back these guys are going to have trouble with financing.

  • Can silver's big run continue? [View news story]
The ratio is 63:1...that is not near historical norms. It is high, 50:1 sounds about right with around 25:1 being the upper bound.

  • Barclays eyes strong transport sector; upgrades CN Rail, Norfolk Southern [View news story]
Where are we shipping things to? Exports fell off a cliff (and assuming baltic trade isn't lying it hasn't picked up in Q2). Consumer demand is non-existent. Hardly any pickup in retail sales or personal spending. Inventory build up isn't occurring supposedly...just a curious disconnect.

Hmmm...even the oil bears are hedging and saying it could go to 150...contrarians must be licking their chops.

  • Retail sales miss, but April revised higher [View news story]
If you can breathe you can buy a car right now...not a good talking point. That is like bragging about how many could afford homes in Phoenix and the Inland Empire circa 2006. It has become completely detached from reality.

  • ISM corrects May report to 56, ahead of expectations [View news story]
No, I meant what would cause the difference? I'm not disputing that they actually adjust it. With Easter and Spring Break I'd think April would be as gummed up as far as orders et al. as May and the weather is nearly the same. Both are early enough that new orders for summer products would still be on time. I just don't get why one month is treated so favorably compared to the next in this instance.

What exactly is the difference between the May seasonal adjustment and the April one that would account for three points?
