I'm a bottom-up value investor and invest in companies selling below their intrinsic value, often because they are out of favor, ignored or in a special situation. Searching for value leads to interesting companies that are out of favor for many possible reasons.
Studying successful value investors and learning from my own mistakes the merits of value investing, over the long term, became apparent. After becoming a value investor my results improved. Sure, I still make mistakes, but on average I’ve been fortunate in getting more right than wrong.
My investing approach is covered on my blog; www.ValuebyGeorge.com The share price of a company often have nothing to do with the underlying value of the company the shares represent. So, I look for investments that are priced low relative to their true or intrinsic value so they provide a margin of safety. Then we must patiently wait, as an owner of the company, until the share price catches up to reflect the underlying value.
40 years investing, my strength is technical analysis, though I am a believer that fundamentals also play a vital role in the stocks you pick and follow. I was a tech stock trader in the late 90's and early 2000's, I also trade options when I feel the timing is right. My portfolio is now leaning toward energy and some dividend paying stocks. V, DIS HD , AAPL, T. Focus is on Oil and REits at the moment . I own a long term position in AAPL, O, OHI, HCP, MO, GILD, JPM, DIS, Main, BACPRA, AGNCB, FB, , T, OKE, WMB, ETE and actively trade their options when I see a potential positive reason. I trade daily market movers, usually off dips and breakouts. Trading frequency is daily to monthly. Holding core positions in my mind is key as long as fundamentals are staying as expected.I focus on market leaders in sector that outperform the market, Buy Preferred stocks and dividend stocks in specific sectors using IBD and other sources Including SeekingAlpha.com and Finviz.com, Yahoo Finance and Fidelity.com.

Retired since I was 39 and President of multi million dollar corporation. Previous to that worked for several Governors in top level positions.
Spent a couple of years studying the financial markets before going in. Made serious money especially in 98 and 99 with profits over a million both years. In late 99, had severe brain injury of some sort ( doctors have yet to figure it out ).Since that time have lost memory and all the studying I did is now gone from memory. I still trade which has been a disaster since that time. Lost all of the millions plus another half million since that time. Trying now to work myself back in but the memory problems are really creating severe problems. THis year is first year ahead since the brain disaster. And not by much at all. I will keep trying until all the money has run out !!
