I fear in his model the estimate of $2.29 was in RMB but not USD......you will find that once you check the past financial statements. so your $23 target would be in RMB under your logic, lol

    Thanks for your detailed article.
IMO its fluctuating revenue and earnings make this stock difficult to be valued. The full year revenue and earnings per share are estimated to be $450M-470M and $0.13-$0.25. So both figures return to the 2011 levels and represented huge yearly declines compared to 2013. It's difficult to say whether the -9% implied by the current price is reasonable or not when the revenue dropped 20% this year and the margin fell.

Yes, today is critical in technical perspective as prices reached their support.

Please note that the deputy secretary, Li Fei, had some statements yesterday in Macau which were interpreted as negative (as reflected by prices in HKSE). He said the dominance of the gaming industry is not good and the industry should be developed in a way which takes the whole country's social security/stability into account.

Most of the junkets should have close relationships with PRC officials, who used to play in casinos as VIPs and their main customers. I have no idea of the details of their backgrounds. But the famous junkets are businessmen who owned businesses in other area in China/HK/Macau. Imo it is pretty sure that they would follow the national leaders' instructions for the development of the industry.

What drag the prices down can be the "negative" statements made by Li Fei, Deputy Secretary in Macau today. He claimed that the dominance of the gaming industry is not good for Macau's economy and the industry should be developed in a way which considers China's social stability and security....

I don't hold any positions in these two stocks. Imo it is not related to the protests in Hong Kong. The number of tourists visiting Hong Kong and Macau in October both recorded a double digit growth and this rate was comparable to the average this year. The GGR is actually very poor if you look more deeply. That is the lowest figure since September 2012... and the racing was supposed to generate more revenue in Nov.

  • Trading Strategies For The Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect [View article]
Yup the A-share market is generally perceived as having a lower standard of market regulatory. I hope the Connect could ultimately enhance it.

But for your information, ironically, in the past few years there were several companies listed in US/HK which were accused of conducting fraud activities and the investors' investments in these companies later went to zero. I can't recall a similar incident in China.

Yup let's see on Nov 17 and later times since the process of price converge may be a gradual one. I will be surprised if the price converge does not happen. To me this is more than a psychology issue as you mentioned above. Some investors, especially the institutional ones, are buying shares of Chinese banks as long term investments and look for dividend payments instead of capital gains. If they sell the more expensive H shares and buy the cheaper A shares, they could earn more shares and therefore enjoy a higher amount of dividend payments in absolute terms.

Yup the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect program is expected to launch in mid-October and the stocks of large casino operators listed in HK exchange would be eligible for mainland investors to purchase. Of course it may create extra volume and forces to push the price upwards because the program provides the only formal way for mainland investors to add casino stocks into their portfolio.
But I have some concerns about getting in before the program:
    1) around the launch date there would be data and information available on how the performances of National Holiday and post smoking ban look like
    2) as I know, many mainlanders already got their security accounts to trade HK stocks and US stocks through some arrangements years ago.

    Seanthome,
Some news to update: Analysts are still in the process of cutting their forecasts and TPs. Today BOFAML and CS update their full year estimates of the gross revenue to 0% and 1% respectively, while JPM expects this is the worst September for Macau gambling since 2007.
Strikes also give pressure to the stocks.
From fundamental view, I would wait to see how the October data looks like. How smoking ban affects casino? Will the government slow down the combat to corruption? and also their Q3 results would come out. If the stocks look promising in the long term and would double easily like other comments stated, I see not much difference to get in now or higher levels such as 66/200. Technically the chart does not show any reversal of trend. Personally I would not try to catch the bottoms.
