  • Muted early reaction to FOMC statement [View news story]
What I suspect: The disposable income needed for growth went to pay for Obamacare. The Fed is lying about "winter" being the cause of slowness... It's not the first winter we ever had... nor the worst... but somehow we are to accept it as an excuse. Unemployment is UP, not DOWN, when measured by workforce participation, but they are padding the failed economy by using a flawed metric in order to tell people it's all okay. The media is like the band on the Titanic, keeping everyone entertained to the very end, as the ship slips under the waves.

  • Pair Trade: Short QQQ, Long REMX [View article]
Okay, got it. Somehow I skimmed past that part of your strategy. :-)

QQQ has gone up sharply, after hours, btw. Debating myself as to whether to get in on this... Apple seems to have made a positive impact with its announcement of a stock split.

I get the impression even Goldman Sachs (The Wall Street Gold Bear) has a better outlook on gold than you do.

Or you can simply buy SQQQ instead of shorting QQQ.

  • Gold mining giants reportedly neared merger, but talks failed [View news story]
I couldn't open the WSJ...but I'll make a wild guess at why NEM would resist: The allocation of shares must be balanced according to value, and NEM's market cap has arguably been lowballed because of its 2 stalled operations (Peru, Indonesia) which are (hopefully) about to come back online. The terms of a lowball merger could cause shareholder lawsuits. Therefore it could make better sense for NEM to delay merging, and bring its operations online first.

Market Manipulation. Bear raid. Half a billion dollars worth of futures puts were placed strategically before the stock market opened on the 15th. (At least according to the link here...read the commentary)

What is your rationale to expect a bubble to form? Don't you think it was the bubble which just began bursting? http://bit.ly/Qi6k56

Check the "bounce cycle" on the Nasdaq 100. Friday was the first decline to touch beneath its previous springpoint in a long time... Sure, you're talking about the S&P, but the markets move as a group... etf's link everything. (Even gold miners notched down with the market on Friday, as gold inched upwards...and they are a separate sector.)

  • Indian IT Industry: Should Global Technology Companies Be Worried? [View article]
They have them...they simply betray them in order to hire lower priced labor, and they also create the expectation of betrayal for American engineers.

H1B's are blatant colonialism. Americans have a right to work on the land under their feet, and without being forced to compete with third world labor which was trained at pennies on the dollar relative to the American cost of education. If India wants to send people here it should be forced to cede empty (vacated) land to the USA on its home turf.

I think the market hit an interim top in early March, and it will go through a process of correction before it retraces... the air is just too thin at these levels:
