  • 5 Takeover Rumors Hedge Funds Have Been Buying [View article]
I don't think you read our article correctly. The last time Icahn invested in CHK he made 30% in 3 months and sold the stock above $30.

Icahn also initiated a 50 million share position in CHK last May when the stock was trading around $15. Again, he made around 30% from those transactions. The stock may have been a loser but you can still make a ton of money if you know when to buy and sell.

Our stock picks gained 37% between September 2012 and March 2013, vs. 12.9% return for the S&P 500 index. I don't understand why you are glad?

I am not picking and choosing the time frame. We first published these picks at the end of August. This is our entire track record.

Our product is our small-cap strategy. If you are interested in 13F filings, the data is freely available on our website as well. We also provide a free 50+ page report summarizing quarterly filings.

VBK was $85.09 on August 31st and it was $99.32 on Mar 13th. Total Return=16.7%

JKK was $91.58 on August 31st and it was $104.49 on Mar 13th.
    Total Return=14.1%

IJT was $81.82 on August 31st and it was $93.21 on March 13th.
    Total Return= 13.9%

Our strategy returned 37.7% during the same time period. It outperformed your ETFs by at least 21 percentage points. Clearly hedge funds' small-cap picks did much better the benchmarks you suggested. You can check out our stock picks here:

They aren't as small as you think and they beat the market by more than 20 percentage points.

" If you look at a number of small cap etfs, or other small cap funds, a lot of them have posted good results too. Some of them have matched or exceeded your returns."

What do you mean by good results? What did they return between August 31st, 2012 and March 13th 2013? Our stock picks returned 37.7% between these dates. I doubt there were a lot of small-cap ETFs (unlevered) that had similar returns.

Can you list the names of the ETFs and their returns here?

You can't explain a 18 percentage points per year outperformance by "size effect". Small stocks outperform large stocks but they don't outperform them by 18 percentage points.

Do you know statistics and probability? Our 15 stock picks didn't beat the market by a few percentage points. They beat the market by 18 percentage points per year during a 10-year back testing period. What is the probability of that happening randomly?

We have been live testing this strategy since the end of August. How did our 15 stock picks perform in real time? They returned 36% since the end of August, beating the S&P 500 index by nearly 25 percentage points. What is the probability of that happening randomly?

The returns from September 4th through February 15th aren't the results from backtesting. Those are actual returns. We started publishing our list at the end of August. It isn't like we started earlier and handpicked a time period that maximizes our returns. Our stock picks outperformed the market by 22 percentage points since we started publishing our stock picks.

We developed this strategy in July 2012 and used a 10-year period to back test it. In this back test our strategy's stock picks outperformed the S&P 500 index by 18 percentage points. This is a HUGE margin that can't be explained by chance or coincidence.

We track 450 hedge funds. The filings are free to download from the SEC's website, but they aren't free to process. Please try to download these filings and come up with your list of most popular stocks among hedge funds. You will notice that some of these filings have serious reporting and formatting problems and you need a TEAM of experienced people to accurately process these filings. It took Goldman Sachs 6 days to process the 13F filings and come up with its own report. What makes you think that you can do this faster and cheaper than we do?
