  • AMD And The HSA Foundation Are Unleashing The Power Of The GPU [View article]
@IVAR, AMD will be using ARM in their server chips next year.

But, these ARM chips will be 64 bit, not 32, like most of the mobile chips, except Apple's latest.

Up till now, server chips have primarily focused on performance, and not on power.

AMD will be producing ARM 64 server chips, that are customized for the needs of the biggest cloud players.

Over time, AMD's superior GPU expertise, combined with their server chip expertise, will help AMD dominate the chips that are used in the cloud.

the Next Era of computing favors AMD!

    @ 392334, Excellent explanation!

I find that brilliant people, who really understand their area of expertise, are best able to explain the significance of the technicals to others, who are not experts.

I really appreciate your comment, because it so helpful for all the non techies.

Please continue to lend your expertise to these discussions.

    Thank you!

  • Advanced Micro Devices Strikes Back [View article]
Do video game enthusiasts care about using slightly more wattage ?

    I don't think so.

So, why does the author spend so much space discussing energy consumption?

What would be the extra $$ spent by the average gamer on electricity relative to the dramatically lower price?

    Would it be noticeable?

Probably not. So, why the discussion?

Does it matter what a video card looks like?

Not to most intelligent people... its not like this an item for teenage girls focused on fashion. So why is this part of the discussion?

Computer enthusiasts are primarily interested in specs.. correct?

    Specs and price are key.

I guess the author felt that this article was the best way to deal with AMD's latest coup, so as to try to minimize it.

This article felt appears to be one big " backhanded" compliment.

From Michael Lewis's Liar's Poker, that was written 25 years ago, the equity area was not a good area to be in on the sell side.

Every year things have gotten worse.

Most of the AMD analysts are hanging on by a thread..

which means that they will sell themselves out if a Hedge fund promises to up their up business, in exchange for the analyst lying about AMD, so they can drive the stock down.

I worked for Wall st firms from 1982 until 1996...

They are the most polluted bunch of greedy. compromised, corrupt, people you will ever meet, outside of the upper echelon of a drug cartel.

AE, What you are is irrelevant to the discussion of IC.

CPUs are based upon "threaded" architecture.

GPUs are based upon parallel processing architecture.

The fact they both are ICs is not the point.

@ Ivar, I agree with you especially this quote:

    >>>Everyone "knows" that parallell computing is the way forward."<<

Everyone except all of the lying money grubbers on Wall st.... and the guy who keeps on attacking me...

AMD will be using ARM architecture in the future to exploit the cloud.

Creating a new chip architecture is very difficult, because there is so much software written for the existing one.

ARM is not that expensive to license for high margin, high utility proprietary chips.

AMD will take huge market share from Intel starting next year by using ARM 64 in cloud server chips.

AMD does not need ARM for plugged in devices, and for autos, planes, and the military.. all huge markets.

I have another article in the que that will help explain...

  • Why Intel Is Embarrassing Itself With A Web-TV Venture [View article]
My article was NOT about Intel being a vicious competitor!

If you could comprehend the main point of the article, it was about WHY Intel was embarrassing themselves by trying and wasting a lot of money on a new TV service.

My article has nothing to do with Intel's dividends.

Please try to comment about the article in question, rather than shifting your comments to things that have absolutely nothing to do with this article.

By shifting your comments elsewhere, you are agreeing with the main premises of the article

    Thank you for your agreement!

  • Why Intel Is Embarrassing Itself With A Web-TV Venture [View article]
There are plenty of facts in the article.

    1) Intel has never sold a consumer product.

    2) Intel is not in the media business .. even remotely.

    3) The smart TV box business is being per-sued by Apple, Google, Samsung, and already Sony and MSFT.. which means it is a HUGE market.... Which explains why Intel is embarrassing themselves.

Connect the dots, and then you might be able to understand...

    HINT: Its not that difficult

  • AMD: A Fundamentally Solid Company With An Exaggerated Negative Outlook [View article]
    @Toonies,

AMD earned 4 cents from operations.

AMD earned 6 cents, including facility sale.

How can you invest your own money, yet you cannot read an earnings report?

@ take, If you bothered to actually read AMD's Q3 earnings report, you would realize that you are mistaken

AMD earned 4 cents from operations.

AMD earned 6 cents, when the sale of the Singapore facility is included.

Your negativity, and refusal to actually investigate the facts, is just another sign for intelligent long term investors to take note of....

Because it reflects the overall lack of education about the FACTS surrounding AMD.

  • AMD: A Fundamentally Solid Company With An Exaggerated Negative Outlook [View article]
    @ I Know First,

    1) AMD's Q4 forecast of 5% SEQUENTIAL growth is NOT a disappointment to anyone who understands growth situations.

    AMD Q4 2-12revenues were $ 1.155 Billion

    AMD's guidance for Q4 2013 are for $1.53 Billion

That is a 35.9% year over year GROWTH!

    2) SEQUENTIAL revenue growth of 5% is nothing to sneeze at.

If every quarter is 5% larger than the previous quarter that equates to the following for each quarter of a year: 1.05, 1.1025, 1.1576, 1.2115

Then the Q1 of the following year is 1.2762 which is 21.5% growth year over year.

Please show me a group of chip companies that are growing 21.5% year over year, and can continue that growth?

I think that AMD will grow even more than 21.5% for the next few years.

While earnings will explode, as the Semi- custom wins pile up, which produces incredible profitability because operating expenses do NOT increase commensurately with the new revenues.

Wall st is really, really missing one of the best growth stories I have ever understood at the very beginning.

Apple had a great growth story going in early 2003, but it took Wall st a whole year to catch on.. then the shares EXPLODED in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007. pulled back in 2008 financial debacle, then again in 2009 thru mid 2012.

AMD has a GREAT growth story... but Wall st has its head lodged...

When AMD's earnings start to explode in 2014..

Wall streets manipulators will be forced to BUY and cover their shorts.

Then the stock will be backed by the same manipulative hedge funds, just as they did with Apple.

The same people who are short AMD now, were short Apple in 2003.

AMD's focus is on SEMI-CUSTOM and EMBEDDED.

Companies like Sony, MSFT, GOOG, APPLE, SAMSUNG, HP, LENOVO, etc, etc, have the resources to create PROPRIETARY products, that have built in OS that can utilize AMD's latest inventions.

The PS4 and Xbox One are just the first of these products.

All the major software developers are already writing programs, that we call games, to take advantage of the initial HSA inventions.

As time goes on, companies like MSFT will enhance their public OS such as windows, to take advantage of these same HSA inventions.

You are correct that a long term AMD investor requires some vision and technical understanding at this point... which seems well beyond what most Wall st analysts are displaying.

@rdtuck, Eventual can be a long, long time....

Apple, QCOM, Samsung, are much more capable in mobile than Intel.

I would be quite concerned if AMD was considering taking them on

If Intel knows this, why do they less than 5% of the mobile market?

AMD's new management will focus on their strengths and competitive advantages rather than trying to take on QCOM, AAPL, and SAMSUN
G, in the mobile chip market.

Why is Intel flailing around with a TV service is the question?

That is the subject of this article!
