  • Bank of America Corp declares $0.01 dividend [View news story]
Agreed 11978851. I'd actually prefer the shares to hover around this level or even dip lower so they can purchase more shares on the cheap. I have no doubt they will be allowed to raise the dividend in Q2.

    Dweebster,

I agree and actually like the wild price fluctuations in stocks like these. It gives the average investor time to take his time to pick up a little here and there when the 4-5% quick dips occur.

    Spoiled,

I honestly do not think Amazon will have much effect at all in this space given that companies such as FAST have boots on the ground visiting the job sites and factories on a regular basis. This service is tremendously valuable to the customers. Consider being a contractor or production manager that is needing a problem solved or recommendation on how to do a certain process more efficiently or even correctly, would you call Amazon? I would not think twice to call a sales rep that is within a half an hour, because of FAST's branch locations, to come on site and fulfill that need.

Thank you both for stopping by!

  • DIY Dividend Investors Club (Part 3): Picking The Best Consumer Staple Stocks [View article]
    I am with rnsmth.

I am in the process of starting a position in TGT as I prefer them over WMT. Strong dividend growth, great balance sheet and management, etc. All the same can be said for WMT but I believe TGT has more growth opportunity and personally I would much rather shop in a clean organized store that does not seem like a giant warehouse that is constantly out of various products on their shelves.

I am by no means a WMT basher, these are just some of the observations I have seen the last couple of years at various stores in several different cities and states. Maybe things have improved in the past 6 months or so since I've shopped at a WMT.

  • Deal Season For Buffett And Others: Here's Why [View article]
I've been a Buffett follower and shareholder for many years and it sure seems to me that he is setting Berkshire up to be able to "run itself" so to speak with the type of transactions as of late.

  • A Solid Dividend And The Possibility Of A Break-Up Are Why I'm Long Occidental Petroleum [View article]
You pointed out exactly why I picked up shares around the $80 level. A strong dividend growth policy and the very good chance of them breaking up the company to unlock shareholder value. It was very succesful with Conoco Phillips and I anticipate it being the same with OXY if they decide to do so. If not, I am happy owning a great company collecting the dividends.

Since this is their first reported quarter as a publicly traded company I am willing to give them 2-3 quarters to put their money where their mouth is. If they do not, I sell and move on. I picked my shares up at $22.25 so I have some room to work with. Mark next May on your calendar and we can see if they delivered. ;)

Almonds and green beans.....what an odd combo. You have taught me something today! Nothing wrong with sticking to your rules though.

  • The Ideal Stock For A Retirement Portfolio [View article]
After listening to the 1st quarter earnings call I have gathered no new, firm numbers to address the companies future plans to reduce debt. However, this has been mentioned to be one of the top priorities for excess capital along with dividend raises. With that being said, I did find it interesting that out of all of the questions presented from analysts, not one was concerning their debt load.

    Sisanba,

I completely agree that Fastenal is on the expensive side at these levels and would not consider adding to my position.

From what I have read Grainger seems to be a great company as well. I prefer owning Fastenal because of their history of financial stability and the fact they have a little different business model than Grainger.

    Thanks for commenting!

Since I can not find a copy of the 1st qtr conference call transcript I will listen to the audio file this weekend when I get some time and see what the company said about its debt reduction plans. In the mean time here is a link that details the latest debt restructuring that they executed on April 29th.

    Tipper,

You are correct to point out that they do have a good amount of debt on their books. I have yet to go over the earnings call transcript but do know that the CEO has said that their top priority is to pay down debt from the Birds Eye Foods acquisition. After I review this I will gladly update my findings.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • Four Important Rules Of Blue-Chip Dividend Investing [View article]
Great article to refresh on the basics Tim.

According to Morningstar Visa has been very aggressive in their share buybacks since 2008. Cutting the number of outstanding shares more than in half from 1,393,000,000 down to 669,000,000. A very shareholder friendly company.

    Buy,

Thanks for the comment. I agree, I am not a buyer at these levels but would be pulling the trigger if a decent market correction took place.
