The electric car market continues to move forward through efforts from ZAP (ZAAP.OB), Advanced Battery Technologies (ABAT.OB), Azure Dynamics Corporation and DaimlerChrysler

Investors are taking notice as they are realizing that what is good for the environment can also be very good for the wallet. Leading the way to a "green" future is the electric vehicle market that offers consumers cost savings through efficiency, while at the same time giving investors following the sector, strong upside potential. Stocks in this segment have also received a boost as oil prices remain above $70 per barrel, and global warming has become a top priority among politicians and consumers.

Overcoming some of the historical challenges found within the electric car market are companies that have placed their focus on research and development to introduce next generation transportation systems to the market. Recent announcements within this market have added a sense of confidence in electric vehicles as a viable transportation alternative.

In the past, a solar IPO (Initial Public Offering) was a rare event, with never more than two or three coming public in any given year. This past year, 2006, marks the beginning of a significant ramp up in solar IPO’s and more importantly, it is the beginning of serious financial resources coming into the solar industry which will allow the industry to continue its current robust growth. In fact, the 2006 solar IPO boom, really started in the last 6 weeks of 2005, when Sunpower (SPWR) and Suntech (STP) came public and are up 130% and 75% respectively since their IPO’s.

The days of the solar industry being an under funded “cottage industry” are over and with the onset of serious funding, a bright new future awaits us all.

Wouldn’t it be nice to get a month out of your cell phone battery without having to recharge? That may sound far fetched. But it’s the kind of mileage you could see from fuel cell-based batteries in a few years. The futuristic battery is based on what’s called direct methanol fuel cell technology [DMFC]. An Albany, NY-based company called Mechanical Technology (MKTY) has a version of the battery that can last for over 90 hours.
