Bret, as always another great article, but be careful with this one going three or four years out. I seem to remember when a certain Japanese behemoth named Sony was untouchable simply because they made great products, but in the end their "closed" way of thinking and lack of respect for the competition eventually brought them down. Bret, as you know I own some AAPL shares, but am starting to believ that their ego is getting out of hand. I have used the Nexus Tablet from Google and truly do not understand why anyone would buy an iPad over it, and I also think that MSFT with its Windows 8 will gain traction. I am currently still long AAPL, but continue to seriously question their innovation.....this next earnings will make my decision for me. Good job Bret, now let me drink some SAM while I am reading a book on my Galaxy Tab....
Thank you Richbar, I really do appreciate that, sometimes people invest in stocks looking for some unbelievable gains, but I have learned that if you buy quality companies that grow earnings, revenues, marketshare, cash....chances are that you should do better than the overall market...of course it is not an exact science, but then again...what is? Just for fun, my portfolio owns quality companies such as AAPL, MA, UA, TROW, EBAY, GWW, XOM, UNP,BBL, MSFT, CTSH, and PEP....most have done rather well, but overall my portfolio (even counting the 08/09 crash) has trounced the overall market with little risk (strong brands with marketshare and mostly growing earnings and revenues with a little bit of dividend appreciation for an extra buffer). AAPL currently is the best "value Stock" in the tech industry ever, I have been long for several years now, I really do see the stock eventually giving me "only" a 10-15% return over the next three to five years (baring any crazy market correction or introduction of a real competitor)...this should give me my $1000 price by the fifth year...and that will certainly make me happy...why anyone would buy HPQ, DELL, RIMM, YHOO, or any other value crap is beyond me. Long AAPL until I am not...lol.

Paulo good article, one also must remeber that AAPL will also be picked up by income, value, and dividend funds going forward, so I think there is room for price appreciation...I still contend that AAPL is currently the best "value" stock out there...

I did create my own index....AAPL, MA, SBUX, TROW, XOM, CHD, INTC, DLR, UNP, ....and the Dow does not compare to me over 2, 5, 10, years.....as for GE, no growth, too much debt, bad management, and no vision...Replace one oil company with GOOG or NKE, replace GE with BRK, CSCO should have never been added, HPQ is crap, replace that with AAPL, ...I agree that the Dow is a weak index, so I will stick with my index called The SAG...lol.

I always wondered why do we need two phone companies, two banks, and two oils....and really HPQ and GE? If I were AAPL I would not want to be included with this bunch.....though I am long INTC and XOM in the Dow, in adddtion to AAPL.

David, I am long AAPL (both options and stock) also, but would feel a bit better if volume was more pronounced. I personally play options on Apple with a more longer time frame (Three months minimum). God Luck.

My point is the BRK is like owning an index fund, AAPL has double digit earnings growth, with a P/E in low teens, Market Cap is just a number, so I believe that AAPL will easily have a better return than BRK over the next several years. Other than that, I guess I have no point.
