J. Christoph Amberger was born and raised in West Berlin, Germany, before emigrating to the United States in 1989. Educated at the Freie Universität Berlin and the Georgia Augusta, Göttingen (Germany), he was a 1984/85 DAAD scholar at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, and holds an MA from St. John's College Graduate Institute in Annapolis, MD.

From 1988 to 2007, he was editor and later publisher of the international investing newsletter Taipan and over a dozen information services. Since 2006, he has been president of TodaysFinancialNews.com, an independent multi-media content portal catering to retail investors looking for unbiased investment recommendations and news. He is the author of several books, including Hot Trading Secrets (Wiley, 2005) and has a weekly internet video column at TodaysFinancialNews.com (http://todaysfinancialnews.com).
