    I used his formula that is outlined in his book The Intelligent Investor. Now if you only wanted to apply it to his style of asset heavy, PE < 8 companies that is fine but his formula works for all companies as it uses normalized earnings.

    He also notes that the 8.5 is the PE for a no growth company, so when you use the formula you are starting off with low assumptions to begin with.
