  • Gentherm: Increased Penetration And Content Per Vehicle Should Continue Growth [View article]
    Alpha,

Good article outlining key parts of my investment thesis. Other considerations are movement into non automotive applications (medical devices, bedding, chairs). There are a number of applications where Gentherm can apply their technology to, especially as they have a large economic moat in this field (acquired their only real competition- W.E.T. automotive). Products will see a large roll-out into new models for more recently signed OEM's as there is a 3-5 year time frame. Customer diversification is a important aspect for this company over the last few years that shows the momentum behind their business.

  • Order Momentum To Drive Strong Stock Growth For Middleby [View article]
    Seterk,

The Viking revenue has improved significantly since acquisition, but the main "problem" is Middleby's no quibble policy. The policy is an amazing differentiator in Middleby's business model, but due to subpar quality of Vikings legacy products compared to the Middleby standard, there has been significant warranty issues (reducing profit). Management has stated the progress has been good with dealing with the legacy product issues and the Vikings products should be up to company standards by the back half of the year. I am almost done a comprehensive article so more info will be provided in a few days.

  • Has This Clean Energy REIT Left The Train Station? [View article]
    Brad,

Great article adding some dialogue to a hidden gem. Long time holder of HASI since ~$11/share so greatly appreciate your article making it more wide known and enabling a trim on shares with big gain. Another interesting REIT that is under followed is Self Storage Group(SELF). I think you will find it very interesting with solid assets and 7.4% dividend. It is in a transition phase, but offers good risk/reward profile. If you decide to write about it, hopefully you will buy it before it sky rockets this time. Thanks again.

  • Iconix Brand Acquires Strawberry Shortcake; Why You Should Care And Follow Along [View article]
Chris do you have any grasp on the large convertible bond issuance? How will this compare to stock buyback in your opinion. Any commentary would be great. This is the main component making ICON not an obvious buy for me at this point.

  • XPO Logistics: 3 Things That Matter Most In 2015 & What To Expect From The Stock [View article]
    Henry,

Based on last quarter (830M in revenue) they would be at 3.4B without any growth. They have 1.6B in cash and credit facilities allowing them to acquire a massive amount of revenue. Add in organic growth and the seemingly unbelievable growth should be attainable with some further financing in 2016. YoY they are up 229%, but the key is how much financing will be needed (dilution/debt) to get to this goal.

    John,

Good catch. Clearly deceptive tactics to fear monger. I am not saying that everything he said is false, but these indicators mean the author is no more reliable than the supposed liars at BOFI.

    Stock Stooge,

The retail numbers are harder to decipher at Penske, but I was more definitively stating that U-Haul is taking share from Avis Budget. I was basing the broader statement of taking industry share based on the fact that in 2009, UHAL had 15,600 locations and is now has above 17,400. In my estimate the increase of 1,800 locations over the last 5 years is more than the relatively stable/low growth nature of the truck rental business thus taking market share.

  • Gentherm: Why You Should Be Cautious About This Auto Growth Story [View article]
    Hey David,

Great point with the heated/ climate controlled seats moving into lower price point vehicles. I believe they will become reminiscent of the air conditioner where every new car owner will soon expect it to be standard in their vehicle. What developments do you see in the remote power business/ any insights on the direction they may take with it?

    Tom Rist,

Thanks for reading and appreciate the "devils advocate" approach. 1. I think stock stooge hit it on the head. The membership nature of renting a van will make it unlikely that the average mover will create a membership just to rent a van. In addition, many people have no real familiarity with the zipcar van concept yet so this is where U-Haul's massive brand awareness becomes valuable. I do not believe zipcar van's are cheaper unless I am missing something. The zipvan says $109 a day or $15.75 an hour, which is much more expensive than $19.95 per day for U-Haul van locally with .59 cents per mile.

    2. Again I think Stock Stooge properly addressed this issue. In addition, I see self-driving cars being a mass adopted reality in a much longer timeline than your stated 3-5 year timeline. Even if it does come to fruition earlier, I believe the technology will be excessively expensive to implement for moving solutions.

    3. The terrible reviews are the biggest threat you posed. The fact that there is no substitute for U-Haul in many regions considering they own 80% of the moving locations somewhat mitigates this threat. Inconsistent customer service is an inherent part of licensing your brand as it becomes out of managements direct control.

    Stock Stooge,

AMERCO has a fairly strong presence in Canada that I believe will continue to expand. I think management is very focused on absolutely dominating the moving solutions market in US with an increased focus on Canada. I believe AMERCO in the next couple years will shift more of its capital expenditures towards storage units as this is still a huge opportunity. I do not think any major international expansion will happen in the short to medium term as joining this market takes major capital input, which is part of AMERCO's economic moat in the US.
