AMZN has been priced to perfection .. and this should cause some defects in the most absurd earnings forecasts.

  • John Hussman: Reported Earnings vs. 'Owner Earnings' [View article]
This is preaching to the choir for me.

It was John Burr Williams with his book "The Theory of Investment Value" that contributed to Warren Buffets emphasis on owners earnings per the author of "The Warren Buffett Way."

I read "The Theory of Investment Value" myself and it too has contributed greatly to my ideology. That helps to explain my short position in AMZN and my long position in AOB.

My analysis of AOB can be seen here and helps showcase this idea of "retained earnings" as being what counts most and why I believe AOB to be such an amazing value at the current price.

Simple formula for owners earnings is Net Income + Depreciation - Cap Ex.

  • American Oriental Bioengineering - A Value Investment [View article]
I don't understand how anyone would think the property purchase was a bad idea.

I would consider the property purchase an investment in the company itself. Per the CEO, at the time of the purchase, he stated: 'Our recent property purchase in the BDA is a long-term investment in AOBO which builds out our multi-functional headquarters and centralizes our management in Beijing, while deepening our presence in a very important development region focused on attracting leading pharmaceutical companies. Additionally, at a time when our significant cash position yields negative real returns, this fixed asset allocation does not constrain our financial flexibility, but rather, we believe, positions us to secure government support in various forms, such as R&D grants related to the PRC's stimulus plan as well as potential low-interest bank loans.'

4 days later, they were granted high-tech status my the ministry of finance. ".. companies with high-tech status are eligible for benefits in addition to the 15 percent tax rate, potentially including preferential treatment in obtaining other support from the government such as obtaining financial support from the PRC's special Technological Development Fund, and to receive competitive commercial bank loans and subsidized interest."

In the book "Money and Man" , Elgin Groseclose writes on pg 43 referring to the Roman Empire at around 300 A.D. (Keep in mind, by this time, the money was debased to base metals with a thin coat of silver only):

"The disintegration continued and there seemed no power great enough to stop it. The Treasury was empty, agriculture prostate, industry demoralized, trade stagnant, and the only commercial activity was a maddened, consuming, parasitic speculation."

What has the US$ been debased to?

What is the level of our Treasury?

    How's Detroit looking?

How much money in derivatives are there outstanding?

.. No power great enough to stop this economic disintegration.
