  • Implications of the Bear Stearns Bailout  [View article]
Sammy -- I think that "ignorance" is rather a strong word under the circumstances. I started studying inflation measure in the 70's, when I worked on the issue of indexing the Wisconsin Tax code for inflation.

Most of those in government - especially Congress -- would prefer to give more benefits to social security recipients. The decisions regarding the measurement of CPI were hammered out by a bipartisan group, mostly influenced by the GOP. I suggest a little more study of the facts. You could start by going to my blog and doing a search for the relevant source material.

In any case, the Fed policy viewpoint is pretty clear. Investors can choose to learn from what they are doing, or sit on the sidelines. They are strongly addressing the economic and credit issues. When those are under control, rates will move higher -- perhaps swiftly.

I know that you are stating what many believe. How confident are you in your sources? Will your investments profit from following them?

    We shall see...

  • What the Bear Stearns Resolution Tells Us About the Fed [View article]
I am delighted to see that several people have taken the time and effort to comment.

I am not surprised that those who choose to write disagree so strongly. It is always difficult to reconsider strongly held opinions. My conclusions about government action come from many years of study and observation. Readers can and will choose whether to find this helpful, or to follow the lead of the many pundits who have no background or understanding government institutions, organizational behavior, or economics.

I get no monetary benefit from allowing my work to appear on Seeking Alpha. My hope is that some readers can look objectively at evidence.

I am less interested in analyzing how this happened than figuring out how to profit from the current circumstances.

I strongly suggest that readers try to understand FOMC motives in order to predict their behavior.

As always, I am happy to engage any well-reasoned comments.

  • The "Chutzpah" of Bear Stearns [View article]
I do not believe that this analysis is fair and accurate, as I try to explain on my site. I hope that Barry will take another look at the data and reconsider his criticism.
