  • Baidu Yi Heats Up China's Mobile OS Market [View article]
    To all readers,

Note on the 2nd to last paragraph. It should read:

“Mobile search is the other search market that Baidu has yet to dominate and is critical to its future growth because earnings has been declining on a year-to-year basis (see image below)"

And the bar graph should be titled "Baidu EPS Year-over-Year Growth"

The editors at SA are working on the revision.

    Thanks,
    Jiang

Chimin, you were not the only one who was confused. I was confused too initially and that's why I spent the time talking to the local sales managers, without the knowledge of FMCN, to confirm the things in the corporate press releases.

But at the end it is better to understand the corporate history first and put yourself in the management position to see what they do make sense. To me, it made sense to put my own brand into a network and the acquired band in another so the management is less confused on its prior acquisitions.

Sure the company might not have an honest image. But if you go back to my article, I also pointed out that it is improving its transparency.

Chimin, I suggest you to read my articles carefully because I clearly stated that LCD 1.0 poster frame does not fit in the description of the LCD network in the 20-F.

Before that, I offered what I thought is a possible reason behind this confusion.

Trust is important everywhere, not just in the US.

I never said Focus Media lied. I think this whole issue is a result of miscommunication.

Carson Block also didn't say they lied (his proof is weak at best). He only said what the company did was questionable, and he speculated on the rationales and the motives. From my observation, Block's goal is not to bring the company down, like what he did to CCME, but to slap FMCN in the wrist by telling the company to improve its transparency, which FMCN happily obliged.

I got it from interviewing several local sales managers and cross referencing it with FMCN.

Also I think the paragraph that you got from the company's press release pretty much answers your question.

"Since the LCD 1.0 picture frame devices in these three cities were developed by the Company's LCD display network division, the Company has consistently included such devices as part of its LCD display network device count since it first began installing them."

In first part of this article. I pointed out that after Framedia's acquisition, FMCN consolidated all of their "Focus Media"-branded screens under the LCD network to differentiate its own product from that of Framedia.

Please refer to the first article I wrote in regards to this issue.

FMCN has been focusing on its core business over the past year, and the company reported profits in its LCD display units.

Also please note that MW doesn't have concrete evidence against FMCN that it is hiding losses. They're merely speculating, and it is usually not a good idea to take speculation as facts.
