  • The New Enhanced Bond Rotation Strategy With Adaptive Bond Allocation [View article]
Wonder if adding a REIT ETF would have also helped returns. They are somewhat unpredictable as they sometimes behave like bonds and sometimes like equity.

  • GURU And ALFA: Are Hedge Fund ETFs Worth Your While? [View article]
In the spirit of fair disclosure and article fairness the authors should have mentioned that they too - have their own 13F replication equity index.

"We also conduct proprietary 13F research, and compile the RR Partners AlphaEquity® Index (Bloomberg: RRALPHA). This is a long-only index that tracks the performance of a portfolio of 20 US-listed, 13F equity positions representing the best ideas our favorite institutional money managers. The Index is independently calculated and is published as a net total return index."

  • GURU And ALFA: Are Hedge Fund ETFs Worth Your While? [View article]
Why yes, I agree - it does add value to the investor. Also, most folks realize that hedging, like any insurance is never free. But it's very nice to have when needed. Here's the link to the index for ALFA:

I actually like the hedging feature for the ALFA fund. Especially in an aging bull market. It will hedge in case otherwise I could "forget", "freeze" or fail to sell, etc. It has a cost, and that's okay.

  • Why TBT Doesn't Have A Prayer [View article]
But "If" and I mean IF you were lucky and the trading gods were with you - during the taper tantrum of say May 1st thru August 21st of 2013 - TBT gained about 39%. So when there's real rate fears it can have its place, but most if not all folks are that lucky or "good".

It's in the context of recent history, the 2013 taper tantrum. Rates spiked, gold went down sharply.

Short gold instead of shorting treasuries. Rising rates are anathema to gold.

I think the market is getting tired of the Greek farce. It will get resolved or kicked down the road. Volatility will fade.

  • Exploiting Market Inefficiency In Closed-End Funds [View article]
Never buy a new closed end fund til the lockup period is over and the large investors who brought it to market have sold to get their investment back. Never, never.
