The phrase, "It is Darkest before the Dawn" comes easily to mind here. Getting back to basics: -America has homes for everyone that needs a home, -America grows more than enough food to feed itself and much of the rest of the world. -We have all the clean water we need. -The people are generally literate and well educated. -Ninety two percent of people that want jobs have jobs.
We are in a bit of a rough patch. This is a great transition between older technologies and methods and newer ones (look at an earlier post of mine)
It is unfortunate that government is trying to preserve the old against the winds of change, but change will out, and we will be the better for it.
It is unfortunate that the dollar and dollar-based assets will not survive in their present form, but we have so far debased our currency TWICE (the Continental and the Civil War Dollar) and still survived.
Congress' Handling of AIG Bonuses Is Shameful [View article]
Todd Sullivan did a service for all of us by publishing Jake DeSantis' letter. The opinions expressed by both of them should be required reading for anyone interested in preserving our system of rights and laws.
I cannot personally judge the the correct size of the amounts being paid, but the bonus mnetioned by DeSantis of about $750,000 appears appropriate for the kind of work done and the opportunities being lost.
Remember that all of these people will be unemployed when they complete their work, and depending on their age and experience may have extreme difficulty in being re-employed.
A deal is a deal, unless you are in congress - then anything goes, and nothing is sacred. Remember that as the value of your dollar drops by 50% in the next several years, and everyone moves into higher tax brackets as a result.
