At this point, there were two economic calculations about the real value of these solar panel and a total of 16 comments. Those two calculations hit the nail on the head : A solar panel will produce somewhere between 1 and 2 kilowatt hours per watt of capacity in a year. In North Carolina, where I pay about $0.07 per kilowatt hour, I would be paying , in the best case, $2 to receive $0.14 of benefit in a year. In Hawaii, where I have another home, I am paying about $0.35 per kilowatt hour, and would be receiving $0.70 maximum benefit per year. So it really could work, in Hawaii, but definitely not in North Carolina.
