  • Will We See Consolidation In The Gold Mining Industry? [View article]
The secular bull market. Step away from the day trading and you might see it.

  • Will A Secular Bear Market Hurt Gold Stocks? [View article]
I'm glad you brought that link up. I never recommended GDXJ. In fact, I put out a report on my top 5 companies for 2011-2012 (most of which are in the gdxj). http://bit.ly/ODJbGf Since then, the 5 are up an average of 17%, which is spectacular performance amid a bear market in the sector. This furthers my point. Gold is in a secular bull market and you have to find the right stocks. Sure, I've had some others that have declined with the market but it all comes down to stock picking in this risky sector.

  • Will A Secular Bear Market Hurt Gold Stocks? [View article]
First of all, SA changed the title. My original point was that the correlation of the stock market and gold stocks prior to a recession/bear continues into a recession/bear. History tells us that.

Second, I can't disagree with much of what you said. It is true that the gold stocks historically dont outperform gold.

Where I'm coming from and what I do is try to find the absolute best companies that are poised for huge gains when Gold and Silver rise. You neglected the fact that the BGMI had a 1960-1980 bull market and have been in a bull for 11-12 years. If the bull market continues and ends in a typical bubble (say 2017-2019), then many of the companies I follow will have a great chance for massive gains. Just look at the gains some stocks made from 2005-2007, 2001-2003 and 2009-2010. These are massive gains and even from producers that started with cash and a little production.

However, because of the volatility and the fact that gains are not long-term sustainable- one has to have an exit strategy as you say. This is extremely important with any non-producer. Great point which we emphasize in our premium service.

Thanks for the chart....I was alluding to the performance of Homestake and Dome Mines in the late 1920s. I guess the rest of the sector was a disaster at the time.

US$ will lose value but relative to currencies it is not going to collapse as many say. Inflation will occur but not hyperinflation.

  • The Five Stages of Gold [View article]
Gold is up less than 6x in 10 years. The 70s bull market was up 25x in 12 years. No one owns Gold. Everyone owns Apple and Google.

Respectfully, it is ridiculous to have the conversation. Those who believe Gold is a bubble believe it cant be or isnt in a bull market. That is the problem.

Take a look at the debt and the budget. If rates rise, there will be even greater monetization of debt. Western governments are bankrupt and that wont change unless you think they will start to grow well above trend.

Gold could go down $200 but in the next few years its going to $3000.

Japan has only one way to go...up. Best risk-reward play for the next 10 years.

Don't expect todays supposed gurus to have any clue. It will be 5+ years before they figure it out. No one owns Japan and no one cares. They are too busy worrying about the next 5 point move in the S&P and Apple or Google.

Gold and gold stocks at the end of last year were 0.8% of global assets. That was over 20% in 1981 and several other times. Anyone who thinks Gold is in a bubble, has no evidence to back that up. It is the exact opposite.
