  • Why Tesla Won't Be Able To Profitably Build A BMW 3-Series Competitor [View article]
I thought it was fun. I also think 90 seconds to 265 miles after dropping off a local-use 40Kwh pack is commercially pretty serious stuff. Apparently Tesla have a 500 Mile battery that is too expensive to make cars with - so just put it in the swap station and let folk rent it for a premium (or buy it - because some will).

  • Potential Liquidity Problems And Overvaluation Make Tesla A Short Candidate [View article]
Superlike! Nothing could be better than Total - and all the rest diversifying and ultimately divesting from oil. That is how not to become a Kodak.

  • The Bear Case And The Bull Case For Apple: Which Is More Convincing? [View article]
I have never bough any shares in Apple. Unlike you, I do know how Apple management is expected to manage the share price, and I do know when the stock will go to $704. On the current management strategy, never, and that does not please me very much.

If you cannot even attack my reasoning, I would suggest it is a little pointless to attempt to attack me.

fellows, you seem hysterical. You might want to reconsider making accusations of childishness and weak mindedness.

"So if I forget to plug in my EV and what am I supposed to do"

Admonish yourself for forgetting and just plug it in to the nearest outlet. Next time remember to get you're smartphone app to sync the geo location of the car with the address and routing data for your meetings schedule with the on board charge status and have the phone and the car warn you if tomorrow's journey has not been planned for.

What do you do if you forget to put gas in your car, about the same thing except plugging it into the nearest outlet is not really going to help much.

EV breaks down. Call Tesla - they pick up your car for free, give you a loaner that exceeds the spec of your own car unless yours is maxed out and bring your car back fixed if the fault is with the car, and where applicable upgraded for free - anything that is your fault or a wear item that you need to pay for, that will be at cost, no dealer markups on service.

Parts? Same as service - see above.

Fire hazzard - greatly reduced over parking a gasoline car (do you have a car with a fire suppression system in the gas tank?). No, you don't.

this is a sample of 2011 data regarding internal combustion engine car fires and related death, injury and collateral damage (can be presumed to include resulting house fires).

"219,000 were vehicle fires, causing 300 civilian fire deaths, 1,190 civilian fire injuries, and $1.4 billion in property damage."

last I heard Curiosity rover for example carried a nuclear battery, SpaceX allegedly flying the same cells as the Model S. No chance that a hydrogen fuel cell produces more than Solar in space. None.

I trust it is clear that what I have written is internally consistent with the reasons stated. It does not require the need to like or dislike anything. Pretty sure your dismissal of points that I find to be obvious is lacking in sense. If you are a stock holder I would prefer you did well - are you going to wish that it does not harm Apple to become an advertising service for competing brands?

There is nothing much wrong with Apple's fundamentals, nothing wrong with its products - why dismiss as nonsense someone who comes up with a coherent reason why with so little change in these things the Market Cap can tumble $300 Billion USD - and more importantly what needs to happen to make it back again and more.

By all means wish and hope instead. That is your prerogative.

"when TSLA slows to BMW's rate of growth"

To make a like for like comparison, then you should probably enter into assumptions the time it took BMW to arrive at its current growth rate - that would about 87 years from now if you consider Tesla is about 10 years old.

Apparently one man set the tone of why to make and why to buy Apple's innovations (and shares), and another set the tone why not to do so.

Apple customers are sick of being viewed as a source of sticky revenue by an accountant CEO. It is just an invitation for the Android crowd to jeer at the sheeple in the walled garden.

The entire trouble with Apple is that Cook dissected the brand into its nuts and bolts (things like sticky revenues from the ecosystem) and in so doing disconnected the Apple brand from its core philosophy of counter-cultural technology freedom that turns tech into an art form.

Now the attractive "freedom" has been claimed by Apple's competitors (Samsung and Google). It's easily rescued with a right-thinking CEO at the helm, because nothing has changed about the fact that Apple products and software are seriously better and more useful than a Samsung/Android combo - but if you cannot understand the meaning of the phrase "Brand Values" then you have no business running Apple.

iWatch? Please. This a hark back to Sony's miniaturization gig - where pray tell is the core philosophy behind this move - to chase Google Glass into the wearables market?

iRadio advertising-funded Internet radio? What? You cannot be serious? Apple hosting a bunch of advertising for Microsoft, LG, Motorola, Samsung, Nokia, AT&T's latest Android phone offer - or just as bad - conspicuously banning all of the above.

This is actually Apple falling over itself to play "me too" without thinking through the consequences.

I am not down on Apple, I am appalled by the abdication of leadership that really must be addressed with a sense of urgency.

"Electricity is free?" Following the capital cost of solar installation, the electricity produced is free, yes of course it is.

How can you have shareholder friendly and Cook in the same sentence? Should not a CEO represent the personality of a brand? Apparently the "think different" brand loses a bit of shine in the hands of a boring accountant who cannot seem to think of anything besides conceding value to the loudest complainer of the moment, despite losing $300bn of market cap.

It will most likely never happen - but picture this: Cook to Einhorn: The whole bond idea was a huge mistake - I am no longer going to let Apple be led by the nose - I'm canning the dividend, claiming back Apple's war chest and I'm going on a tear to disrupt the entire Home Theatre and Hi Fi markets with the core technologies of iTunes and Airplay. Panasonic, Sony, LG, Samsung and all the rest wave good bye to your home entertainment customer base, Apple is coming.

Apple to $1000 right there. A visionary CEO is shareholder friendly, not a caretaker manager from the accounts department.

  • Tesla's Disappointing 12% Sales Decline In Q2 And Sobering Future Outlook [View article]
JRP3 - I think that looks like a sensible figure delivered in the US. I am next to certain that they have produced on top of that number for the EU. Another two things game to light from the Teslive meeting - there is effectively no deduction from production numbers for loan vehicles - the loaners are being purchased at a rate too fast to keep them in service as loaners. Secondly, Jerome let slip that they had effectively been rabidly targeting a slim profit for Q2, hence rescinding the priority of the service department to keep loaners in service in Q2 and instead reserving some weekly production in Q3 for that purpose.
