Maybe I don't understand what you are saying. You wrote:

"I now believe that Tang decided to initially utilize their shares to take a short position in the stock."

Shorting means you borrow shares to sell, hold the cash until you buy the shares back to repay the loan or the company goes under and you keep all the cash from selling.

If you borrow stock from a long position you hold and sell it, you don't have to buy the shares back since you borrowed it from yourself and have no real debt.

I look at it as getting their money out above the conversion price if they were selling above $3.08.

    I may agree with this:

"With more than a dollar drop from the $3.08 price that they paid for their shares, Tang has had the opportunity to make some pretty good short-term cash."

but it depends on what they got for their last share sold.

If they sold as long as people were willing to pay more than the $3.08 conversion price, then they made money. Otherwise, they might have done better to keep the debt and collect interest.

I'd be interested to know how many shares they sold. If they sold them all, then that is one less big seller to worry about. If they stopped selling at say $3.08, then there could be more selling at that price when/if the stock returns to that price.

BTW, I saw Dr Dean on KGO TV several years ago broadcast from a hospital in SF where a patient with brain cancer went into remission with this drug. After looking into the drug and who made it, etc.... I decided it was worth accumulating shares when cheap. Disclaimer... I took profits in the $3s... can't let big gains go away without selling some shares.

  • Antigenics: Insider Buying Alert [View article]
Well, I'd love to see more insider buying for sure, but it is a tiny market cap ($111M) so you won't expect to see $5M buys like we get at GE without the buy moving the stock up significantly.

I'm not recommending this as a long term, major buy... but I like to tag along when insiders are buying if possible.

Check out the insider buying vs selling here:

    Compare that with Cisco

a stock I won't own since insiders have no confidence in it...

  • Is Antigenics a Good Buy Right Now? [View article]
I agree on AGEN. Insiders were buying at $1.83 in March.
See " Insider Buy Alert - @$1.83 so I added there also. The stock had a nice rally and now seems to be testing its May low of $2.25.
