  • Cramer Hates Cisco - Time to Buy Again?
I made good money trading Cisco (CSCO Charts and Quote) by buying when it was about $17 and selling every share (rare for me) at I believe $24... I have been watching ever since for another fat pitch.

Maybe now that Cramer ranted about Cisco yesterday on MadMoney it is time to reconsider another trade.

    Cramer's Lightning Round - I Don't Want to End on Cisco (2/15/11)
    Bearish Calls:

Cisco (CSCO): "Are you kidding me? Cisco? No, no it is not a good time to buy Cisco...No. No. Wrong. I need to take more calls because I don't want to end on Cisco. That's too frightening."
Until I see signs that Cisco management is more interested in creating shareholder value rather than shipping wealth out the back door to insiders with stock options, I won't recommend it as a long-term invesment even if it again has good potential for appreciation.

  • Finisar (FNSR) Wins while Apple, Microsoft, Google, Motorola and Nokia Battle
It is hard to believe it has been nearly a year since I recommended Finisar here on SeekingAlpha at $12.89 and two years since I recommended FNSR and GE on InvestorHives.  Search my name and you will see I don't recommend many stocks in free articles.

This week, Finisar broke $45 before correcting where it is now available for $42.50. Back in 2009 I was happy FNSR gained 50% from my newsletter buy alert at 24¢ and wanted to tell others I thought it would go much higher, hence the article on a friend's website.
I've taken profits in BOTH GE and FNSR.  I continue to trade their ups and downs for added return, but I continue to hold and like both in my personal and newsletter portfolios as long-term investments too.  By trading their ups and downs, if we have a major correction or bear market, I have cash out now to buy shares back at much lower prices.  If they keep going higher, that is fine with me too.

When I have some time, I will try to expand this instablog post into a full article about why I still like FNSR (Hint:  it doesn't matter if Apple, MSFT/Nokia, Motorola  or Google win the smartphone OS battle, they will ALL need bandwidth provided by Finisar products.)

  • US Inflation Pressure at 9-Month High According to ECRI
The Economic Cycle Research Institute, ECRI - a New York-based independent forecasting group, released their latest readings for their proprietary monthly Future Inflation Gauge  (USFIG) this morning. (More about ECRI)

ECRI’s U.S. Future Inflation Gauge (USFIG) rose again in January. The value of the USFIG lies in its ability to measure underlying inflationary pressures and thereby predict turning points in the U.S. inflation cycle.

The USFIG advanced to 101.6 (1992=100) in January from 100.5 in December, as did its smoothed annualized growth rate to 4.4% from 2.7%.

Commenting on the data,  ECRI's Co-Founder, Chief Operations Officer and author of "
Beating the Business Cycle", Lakshman Achuthan said: " With the USFIG climbing to a nine-month high, underlying inflation pressures are starting to simmer."
