  • Gold, Oil and Fixed Income? They're All in This CEF (GGN) [View article]
Interesting--an ETF with gold, oil, and fixed income. I guess it works, but I would really prefer to make my pick from the best in each class individually instead of a combo. What is gained? Sounds like an instrument of mass confusion. I also, I am not sold on CEFs either. I use them selectively, but there are some inherent problems with them.

  • Is the U.S. Dollar Headed for a Mighty Crash? Part I [View article]
Wow! A lot to think about here, and try as one might, it is hard to see it all in a good light for the U.S. economy. I know, "green shoots" and all have people feeling like we are on a quick course to the way it was a few years ago, but that is almost impossible. We have some life-changing problems to face, and right now, our government is simply pushing them to a future day of reckoning.

  • Time for the 'Commodities Contrarian Contango' with Precious Metals and Energy [View article]
Patient can be hard for investors/traders, but it can work wonders. This is a great time to do nothing for a while and just watch. Value investors have always stressed wait for the fat pitch, the one you can't miss. Commodities need to settle out for a while.

  • Gold Mining or Gold Bullion Stocks for 2009? [View article]
Gold has some meaningful headwinds here. I sold my bullion recently when it approached 1,000. I may repurchase at some point, but I am in no hurry. Individual mining companies are very risky, and an individual investor should be very cautious. I think an ETF makes a lot of sense unless one is really skilled in trading the miners.

  • The International Gold Rush: Bulls May Soon Be Rewarded [View article]
They may be rewarded, and they may not. Jim, you do not build a strong base on the fundamentals from which to come to your conclusion. I hold gold and silver as well, but I am afraid your call just doesn't come from a logical assessment of the fundamentals, and your opinion, as mine, plus a buck might get us a cup of coffee.

  • Ron Paul's Investment Portfolio [View article]
Hey, Roduku, just for fun I did some searching to see what Bush and Cheney hold. In 2001, Bush disclosed that he had over 50% of his investments in Treasury notes, 11-17% was in stocks and mutual funds, and the balance of his net worth was in real estate. I didn't find a total value for his investments.

According to a 2006 article I found, Cheney had $25 million divided up in a short-term muni bond fund, a tax exempt money market fund, and a TIP fund. He had another 10 to 25 million in a European bond fund.

Neither seem to believe in gold.
