Edwin G. Dolan holds a Ph.D. in economics from Yale University. Early in his career, he was a member of the economics faculty at Dartmouth College, the University of Chicago, and George Mason University. From 1990 to 2001, he taught in Moscow, Russia, where he and his wife founded the American Institute of Business and Economics (AIBEc), an independent, not-for-profit MBA program. After 2001, he taught global macroeconomics, managerial economics, money and banking, and other courses at several universities in Europe, including Central European University in Budapest, the University of Economics in Prague, and the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga. My name is Scott Sumner and I have taught economics at Bentley University for the past 27 years. I earned a BA in economics at Wisconsin and a PhD at Chicago. My research has been in the field of monetary economics, particularly the role of the gold standard in the Great Depression. I had just begun research on the relationship between cultural values and neoliberal reforms, when I got pulled back into monetary economics by the current crisis.
I'm a retired IT professional that focused on large scale infrastructure projects. From 2000 - 2012 I was co-owner of an IaaS, SaaS company and understand the value and power of a recurring revenue model when paired with a sticky product.
My investing philosophy is very simple. I look for changes; social, economic, technological, legal etc that I believe to be inevitable. From there I identify companies that are well positioned to benefit from these changes. The challenge with this approach is getting the timing right as the pace of change is very unpredictable, the upside is some very substantial gains. Companies with a recurring revenue model are especially interesting for the reasons that I described above.

During his three-year tenure, he consulted on product development and technology strategy focused on high tech and pharmaceutical companies. Prior to Integral, he developed mathematical programming algorithms for managing and optimizing “Y2K” projects as an independent contractor. Prior to this work, he implemented expert systems for diagnosing and troubleshooting automotive and semiconductor manufacturing equipment as a Business Solutions Project Manager and Consultant for Expert Edge, Inc. Dr. Ahanotu earned a Master’s and Ph.D. in Engineering-Economic Systems (1999), a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and Honors in Values, Technology, Science, and Society (1991) - all at Stanford University.

What I personally want you to know about my plans: After witnessing the worst of Wall Street firsthand and having the ideal vision of my childhood career choice corrupted by reality, I almost switched to full-time charity work at age 40 and still have plans for several non-profit endeavors. The future is somewhat unknown, and I am open to employment offers for portfolio management or other ideas. While continuing to publish regularly, I expect to begin work on several book ideas that I believe are important for business, for our nation and for society.
I may put my stock selection skills, earned through blood, sweat and tears, to better use, and to make my own way. I would like to give investors something rare, a dignified partner who can manage money with integrity and a clear conscience about the degree of due diligence behind investment decisions... someone who cares more about your money than your wife. Prior to his Wall Street career, Mr. Kaminis spent time in the back-office, as a mutual fund accountant, where he managed for a time the work of two men. Before this, from age 11 to age 25, he worked as a carpenter's apprentice and carpenter with his father, in both commercial and residential projects. Mr. Kaminis has an intimate knowledge of the real estate (undergraduate degree in Real Estate and Finance) and construction market, as well as the restaurant industry.
However, as a generalist stock analyst, he showed the ability to learn any and the most complicated of industries in short time - and he gamed every challenge presented to him. I have been "managing" my portfolio for the past ten years. Managing in quotes because I didn't do very much for myself. Instead, I listened to the advice of family and friends and the talking heads on TV.
My wake-up call came a few years ago when I calculated my annualized return and discovered I did little better than a savings account.
I decided that my process was not working. I would often swing for the fences by buying small companies, only to make paper profits and lose them. I had no buy or sell discipline and that was hurting my returns. I embarked on a journey to overhaul my investment process.
I read books and online articles (a lot of Seeking Alpha) to learn about other people's processes. I made myself a model in MS Excel that at least acts as a baseline for decision-making and helps instill discipline in my process. By using this model my returns have improved considerably.
Value investing is a philosophy that sits well with me, and I'll say I identify most with it. Not exclusively, but it's generally what I look for. It's funny that when I started swinging for singles and doubles instead of home runs my returns increased.
My journey is still in its early stages, only three years in (and in a rising market, to boot). I will have to wait and see where the next 10 years take me. For now, I'm happy with my new process and recent results.
