The five-year EPS growth rate for CEL is 20.84% beating out the industry average of 5.89% and the sector average of 9.07%. Also compared to its direct competition, CEL has an EPS of 2.81, MSI is at 3.7 and PTNR is 1.57. Overall CEL has performed exceptionally well and this is reflected through its pattern of growth and fueled by its dividend.

  • Jobs Data Isn't As Cheery As They Would Have You Think [View article]
    Great article!
I don't understand why all of the hype over the jobs data!? I guess its a much needed political tactic. December actually produced 242,000 newly created private sector jobs, of which 42,000 were temporary, seasonal positions, which don't count. Also, the unemployment dips to 8.5% hahaha this is some kind of joke. Any economist would tell you that the real rate of unemployment stands at 17-22%. It takes 200-250,000 newly created private sector jobs every month for a sustained period of 3-5 years before the U.S. will see any significant improvement in unemployment and prosperity in America again. Once again, thank you for a great article

"When you take a risk on a stock, you want to make sure you're properly rewarded. Downloading Apple's trading history back to 1984, we see the company generated an annual compound rate of return of 10.2%. Apple does not pay a dividend. That's a pretty average return if you consider the S&P 500 returned an annualized 9.8% return over the same period, says IFA.com."

"But to get that average return, you had to take much greater risk. You accepted risk — standard deviation — of 73 percentage points. So, by investing in Apple, you took on 368% more risk to get a 4% higher return. Much greater risk for just a little bit more return, is usually not worth the tradeoff. Over the past decade, most of the volatility has been on the upside, making investors feel rewarded. But how long that unfettered rise can continue is a big question."

Keep in mind that growing this fast gets increasingly difficult as the company becomes larger.

TaiPan, thank you for your assessment; this type of discussion is very good when narrowing down stocks! With regards to a declining price this is very true it does sit at a low and this adds to the high yield it pays. With regards to EPS for the past five years it is lackluster: +50%, -4.5%, -14.29%, 24.07%, and -83.58% respectively. Of course these numbers are not very good and add a cloud of uncertainty hence the low stock price, but it is thing like this that add opportunity. I do have to admit I think Bank of America is a steal and its numbers look similar to this.( I have been recommending BAC since $5).

PT has an EPS of 0.57 and a P/E of 9.93 and historical P/E of 23.98, growth rate of 15%(assumed) gives it a value price of 33.62 and an MOS price of 16.81.

I do thank you again TaiPan for doing your own research. One should always do research when making an investment rather than taking advice. LK

Dancing diva you make great points in regards to your research, but find it very flawed. It is important to do research from different sources not just yahoo finance this way you get a better understanding of what you are looking at/for. There are several companies that you can recommend that share both positive and negative mixed reviews, and any company can have a "missed target" EPS. And if you review my table you will actually see the EPS growth for 5 years. I Once again I condemn you for doing your own research, but I think you should polish up. Like you say there is so much to learn. Keep in mind sites like SA are strictly informational and you should always do your own research when investing.

Yes JaxxBat, the one-year price target is an "analyst concensus" not my target. I generally point those out for the reader to be aware of. However, it is always important to do your own research before investing, this is strictly informational.
