Bristol-Myers Squibb (NYSE:BMY) announced 48-week data from an ongoing study (ETV-048) of chronic hepatitis B patients with decompensated cirrhosis, in which BARACLUDE demonstrated greater viral suppression compared to adefovir.

On Tuesday, shares of Sinovac Biotech Ltd. (SVA) jumped up $0.81 or 10.83% to end the day at $8.29 after its wholly-owned subsidiary, Sinovac Biotech (Hong Kong) Ltd, received the Certificate of Approval to distribute Panflu (H5N1), its H5N1 (bird flu) pandemic influenza vaccine, in Hong Kong.

Also among the winners was Elron Electronic Industries Ltd. (NASDAQ:ELRN) which closed up +0.56 (10.89%) to $5.70. On Friday, Oncolytics said it's the first company to reach an agreement with the FDA on a Phase 3 trial design for an IV-administered oncolytic virus under the SPA process. The SPA is an agreement between Oncolytics and the FDA that the design and planned analyses of the Phase 3 study is adequately designed to provide the necessary data. The stock traded above it's 52-week high on Friday, but shares ticked down a bit after hours. As news spreads about this key development, interest in the company may rise as well since a license application submission for REOLYSIN would become a major development for the Calgary-based biotechnology company focused on the development of oncolytic viruses as potential cancer therapeutics.

"While it was always unrealistic to expect continued uninterrupted improvement in economic indicators, in particular as the recovery in some series had broken previous records, the confluence of these negative releases comes at a sensitive time when markets have begun to question underpinnings of the six-month long equity rally and when the sustainability of the broader recovery remains in question," said Michael Hart, a currency strategist for Citigroup.

Speaking of vaccines, forget what we said after Novavax, Inc. (NVAX) closed up 16% after the week's first session. The company, whose vaccines leverage its virus-like particle (VLP) platform technology, looked like it was attempting to rebound after a recent two week skid may have just been taking a breather. While it still looks like a solid long term play, shares have been sliding downward slowly since they announced that they were going to raise capital on September 16. Shares gave up half of their Monday gains and closed at $4.12 -0.29 (-6.58%).

Covidien announced that they would pay $12 in cash for each share of Aspect, a premium of about 56 percent over the stock's Friday close of $7.67 so shares closed the day 55% higher at $11.96 +4.29 and were trading a bit higher after hours.

The company was so badly beaten and on the ropes recently, that most of the management team continued to work, for extended periods of time, without compensation. "When I came home and told my wife about the pay cut, she looked at me as if I was crazy," says CEL-SCI's CEO, Geert Kersten.
