Thanks for your note. Disagreement makes the world go round, so I appreciate it. I'm never sold on the concept of a CEO's incentive--they want a career capper, another billion, whatever, especially when an industry is changing form on them. But I hear you. And I'll watch. I just won't be a believer until I see statistical evidence....and firing 27,000 doesn't count. Best, Marek

Yes, it's been a Lazy Susan of visions. Grab one before it spins. Only problem is: HP needs more than what is taught in basic management classes. That's what Starbucks needed: a return to Management 101. Focus on core competencies and all that crap. But HP needs a reinvention. Moreover, it needs to reinvent itself against formidable competition like Apple. And that ain't basic. Best, Marek

Smart words--I won't quite go along with you on canonizing Apothekar, but he was preferable to Whitman, who seems to be going back to (faded) basics. Best, Marek

And with all that unease and simmering anger, Wall Street must address the concerns. They can't stay hidden in a bunker anymore. Best, Marek

  • Wal-Mart And Death Of The Shareholder Spring: The Stock Story Of The Coming Week [View article]
I wasn't talking about any particular initiative, only the assumption that they are going to be run through the ringer by shareholders. As I said, Wal-Mart is doing well and the scandal, as it were, is not shocking. Plus, as we saw in the case of JP Morgan, people--with apologies to all these predictions of anger and revolt--still seem to worship power. It will pass pretty uneventfully.
