As long as they don't overpay or try to do something too crazy it's fine by me...but I'm always worried of management who focus too much on acquisitions!

Very true, thank you for catching this! The projected yield is about 2%.

  • Not Loving McDonald's [View article]
Hello All and thank you for your comments.
I went back to Morningstar which I usually use as my source and agree with you. Morningstar in their "valuation" tab have the yield as looking back over the last 12 months (at 2.9%) but on their front page actually use the forward view of 3.2%.
In any case I think we all seem to agree that MCD's dividend is pretty good.
    Cheers,
    Ben

    Hello Tcbrown,
Thank you for the input - that makes them even more attractive, unless they are going to use that to over-pay for an acquisition!
Has SYK made many acquisitions in the past?
    Cheers,
    Ben

  • Does Higher Dividend Payout = Higher Earnings Growth? [View article]
    Hello Timothy,
I completely agree with you. I usually use a Debt/Equity ratio of <1.0x for my own stock reviews...which led me to the same conclusions on CL and CLX vs. JNJ and PG.
    Cheers,
    Ben

    Hello RobberBaron,
I completely agree with your view that the industry is cyclical and that winning contracts does not always lead to better profits! In this environment, GD is exceptional as it has been able to maintain a very strong a consistent performance over the last 10 years.
I also have a good chunk of my portfolio in GD's stock.
    Cheers,
    Ben

Indeed, generally they generate a high level of cash flow and don't have to invest too much (compared to healthcare) into R&D

  • 10 Potentially Attractive Stocks [View article]
    Hello Mark,
Thank you for your comment. The price targets are "back of the envelope" and I use them to see where I should go deeper as there could be an opportunity. I then do a valuation and include a margin of safety. However, there are already a couple of elements of a margin of safety in this list
1- They are all great businesses with solid performance over time (cf. my reviews of all these businesses on marginofsafetyinvestin...)
2- They all have a conservative balance sheet
3- The 15x multiple on the 3-year average EPS is already a conservative valuation based on Graham's writings so I use it as a first filter to make sure I am building in a margin of safety within the price.
    Would you agree with those?
    Cheers,
    Ben

    Hello Nats,
Thank you for the clarification. I used the Morningstar numbers that they call "projected yield". I guess they haven't looked closely at them!

    Hello Scooter,
Thank you for your comment. Indeed a price lower than $28 would be good!

  • Sysco Stock Review: Not So Tasty [View article]
    Hello Cttlloyd,
I agree that boring is a virtue for a lot of companies. Do you think the company could really increase its dividends? It's already at a payout of ~50%.
    Thank you for your comment,
    Ben

    Hello Rich Joy,
Indeed, it'd be great to see a bit of weakness so that we can have a good entry/accumulation price.
    Thank you for your comment,

    Hi Jim,
I'm not sure actually. I've worked in India and UL certification there mattered - are there other competing certifications?

    Interesting,
Thank you for bringing this up!
I have personally been burnt earlier this year by AMED and was nervous when I heard about the stories on stock options and the true/false acquisition communications which I've read somewhere else.
