  • Berkshire Hathaway's Latest Portfolio Update [View article]
Soros has to declare his holdings on the exact same schedule as everyone else, it's an SEC mandated rule. Keep in mind though that George is very limited in his day to day management of the fund and his sons and other managers are responsible for most of the positions you see in the portfolio. I plan on covering Soros as well so stay tuned! Thanks for the comment

  • David Einhorn's Greenlight Capital Bets on CIT Group and Pfizer, Takes Six New Positions [View article]
Actually, you'd be quite surprised at the returns you can achieve by simply piggybacking the picks of select investment managers. The key is to know which managers to follow. These 13F filings only detail equity holdings, so it's obviously best to track managers who primarily dabble in the equity asset class.

Alphaclone lets you backtest the performance of these portfolio disclosures and our readers can receive a 30 day free trial right now if you want to check it out: bit.ly/freealphaclone

Once you get in there, take a look at the "Tiger Cub" portfolio and look at it's performance. Thanks for the comment.

mbkelly75, thank you for the kind words they are always appreciated. Happy you found the materials resourceful.

Believe it or not, the 80 mistakes value investors list was not even made public by the presenter! He talked about the list, but did not disclose any of the items on it. Ridiculous if you ask me.

  • Hedge Fund Third Point's Latest Exposure Levels, Portfolio Breakdown [View article]
Thank you. Yes you can simply buy ticker SH which is an inverse S&P 500 fund... it goes up when the market goes down. That way you don't have to do any shorting in your account as that fund is short for you. Keep in mind though that this is not to be construed as investment advice. Just trying to answer your question. Thanks for the comment.

  • Hedge Fund Third Point's Latest Exposure Levels, Portfolio Breakdown [View article]
Sorry you didn't find the article useful. We have a blend of retail and institutional readers so we cover topics for both. Retail investors can use this to get a sense as to the hedge fund's exposure levels and either follow that in their own portfolio, or do the opposite (whichever you prefer). We're merely highlighting what some of the most successful hedge funds are up to these days.

Hedge funds were not bailed out in the crisis. Banks were. Just wanted to clarify.

  • Top Hedge Fund Managers at Value Investing Congress: Day 2 [View article]
Thanks for the comment. We didn't tag Changyu as CYOU in our original article so it looks like SA accidentally put the wrong ticker on it. As we mentioned briefly in the article, yes it's a wine play. Thanks.

  • Harbinger Capital Shows Stake in Palm [View article]
Well Harbinger themselves announced plans for a 4G wireless network... see our linked post above in the article. How does a hardware manufacturer (Palm) tie-in with a LTE infrastructure theme, though? Palm has their OS and then the handsets... it's not like they are a wireless carrier or something. While I'd agree that Palm could somehow tie-in to your hypothesis of 4G, it's unclear at this point how it would exactly piece together.

Yes, we are well aware that Fairholme is a mutual fund. Seeking Alpha changes the titles of our pieces and obviously made a mistake here.

  • Prologue Capital: Down on U.S. Fixed Income [View article]
I believe you missed this crucial bit of data: "For 2008, Prologue finished up 18.86%."

Many will argue that hedging against losses is much more important than reaping gains in a massive bull rally like the one in 2009. Just think about that for a second... in 2008 equity indexes were *down* over 30%. This fund, on the other hand, was *up* over 18%. Impressive stuff given all the uncertainty and forced liquidations in 2008.

  • Thursday Preview: New Billionaires Are Doing Great, How About You? [View article]
Focusing on the billionaire's list itself, I think the most shocking fact is that so many people were able to increase their wealth by such a large margin despite the weak economy and volatile stock market the past two years. We went through the billionaire list and singled out all the hedge fund managers and their rank for anyone interested: www.marketfolly.com/20...
